''Chicago '94'' is a live album by the rock band Phish. It contains two complete concerts on six CDs, and was recorded at the UIC Pavilion in Chicago, Illinois on June 18 and November 25, 1994. It was released by JEMP Records on July 31, 2012. Phish
Phish is an American rock band formed in Burlington, Vermont, in 1983. The band consists of guitarist Trey Anastasio, bassist Mike Gordon, drummer Jon Fishman, and keyboardist Page McConnell, all of whom perform vocals, with Anastasio being the primary lead vocalist. The band is known for their musical improvisation and Jam session#Rock, jams during their concert performances and for their devoted fan following. The band was formed by Anastasio, Gordon, Fishman and guitarist Jeff Holdsworth, who were joined by McConnell in 1985. Holdsworth departed the band in 1986, and the lineup has remained stable since. Most of the band's songs are co-written by Anastasio and lyricist Tom Marshall (singer), Tom Marshall. It is a concept album, detailing the experience of a man dreaming about the rift in his relationship with his girlfriend. ''Rift'' was recorded in September and October 1992 and produced by Barry Beckett. ''Rift'' was certified gold by the RIAA on October 15, 1997. "Chalk Dust Torture" is a 1992 song by the American band Phish. It is the thirteenth track from their 1992 album ''A Picture of Nectar'' and was also released as their first promotional single by Elektra Records. The song is a riff-based, fast-paced rock song written by Phish guitarist and lead vocalist Trey Anastasio and lyricist Tom Marshall. The studio recording features a lowered pitch effect on Anastasio's lead vocal, and in order to accommodate the lower pitch (one half-step down), the song's typical key of E was dropped to Eb. You Enjoy Myself
"You Enjoy Myself", commonly abbreviated to "YEM", is a Phish song written by Trey Anastasio, first played live on February 3, 1986. It is the band's most frequently performed song, having been played at about 33% of their first 1,800 shows. History Trey Anastasio wrote "You Enjoy Myself" while in Florence, Italy. The title came from an Italian man, befriended by Anastasio and Jon Fishman, who wrapped his arms around them near the Uffizi museum and exclaimed, "you know, when I am with you, you enjoy myself!" A short, a cappella version of "You Enjoy Myself" appeared on '' The White Tape'', Phish's debut album. A longer, full-band version appeared on their album '' Junta''. Michael Eliot Gordon (born June 3, 1965) is an American bass guitarist and vocalist most recognized as a founding member of the band Phish. In addition to bass, Gordon plays banjo, piano, and guitar. He is a filmmaker ('' Rising Low'', '' Outside Out'') and author (''Mike's Corner''). He has released six solo studio albums and three studio albums with acoustic guitar pioneer Leo Kottke. ''Junta'' ( ) is the first studio album by the American rock band Phish. It was self-released by the band in May 1989 on cassette without the support from a record label, and later received a wider release when Elektra Records reissued it on compact disc in 1992. While ''Junta'' was preceded by two demo recordings – '' The White Tape'' (1986) and '' The Man Who Stepped Into Yesterday'' (1987) – which circulated among the band's fanbase, ''Junta'' is the band's first professionally recorded album. Much of the album consists of complex, multi-part suites influenced by progressive rock and jazz rock. Page Samuel McConnell (born May 17, 1963) is an American multi-instrumentalist, most noted for his work as the keyboardist and a songwriter for the band Phish. McConnell joined Phish in 1985, and is the only member of its long-standing quartet lineup to not be an original member of the band. McConnell has been part of a number of other side projects, including leading the electronic jazz fusion band Vida Blue (band), Vida Blue and acting as a session musician for the comedy rock duo Tenacious D. Jon Fishman
Jon Fishman (born February 19, 1965) is an American drummer and co-founder of the band Phish, which was, in part, named after him. He is credited with co-writing nineteen Phish songs, eight with a solo credit. Early life Fishman was born in Philadelphia and grew up in Syracuse, New York. Fishman had a passion for the drums from an early age and emulated John Bonham, the drummer for Led Zeppelin, Bill Bruford of Yes and King Crimson, along with Keith Moon of The Who. He went to Jamesville-Dewitt High School in a suburb of Syracuse. After graduation in 1983, he attended the University of Vermont to study engineering. Shortly after his arrival, he met Mike Gordon and Trey Anastasio and founded the band Phish. Deciding against engineering, he and Anastasio transferred to Goddard College.
