Chharodi Lake
Chharodi Lake is located near Chharodi village on Sarkhej–Gandhinagar Highway in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India. History The lake plot in Survey No. 251 of Chharodi village was transferred by Government of Gujarat to Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) for free in March 2020 to develop it as a public space and as a water storage. The development work was started by holding online ceremony under the presence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah on 11 September 2020. The encroachments on the plot were removed in March 2023. The lake was developed by AMC at the cost of . It was inaugurated by Union Home Minister Amit Shah on 21 May 2023. In May 2023, 26 houses were demolished to create space for an amusement park and a garden in future. Features The lake is spread over an area of . Sarkhej–Gandhinagar Highway
The Sarkhej–Gandhinagar Highway, colloquially the S.G. Road or S.G. Highway, connects the city of Ahmedabad with Gandhinagar, the capital of the state of Gujarat, India. It forms a major part of NH 147, which connects Sarkhej with Chiloda near Gandhinagar. It is a major artery road for commercial and public transport, and is witnessing a major construction boom along its route towards Gandhinagar. History The highway was primarily built as a mean to bypass traffic from the city centre of Ahmedabad. But lower land prices led to a boom in real estate and the retail industry. Presently, prices of land within the vicinity of the highway are more comparable to those in downtown areas. It has emerged as a hub for educational, entertainment and corporate parks. Narmada Canal
The Narmada Canal is a contour canal in Western India that brings water from the Sardar Sarovar Dam to the state of Gujarat and then into Rajasthan state. The main canal has a length of ( in Gujarat and then in Rajasthan). It is the second longest canal in India (after the Indira Gandhi Canal) and the largest canal by water carrying capacity (40,000 cusec at source). Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) was established in July 1950 under the Bombay Provincial Corporation Act (1949), is responsible for the civic infrastructure and administration of the city of Ahmedabad. History On 21 April 1831, the collector of the city, Mr. Bordel formed 'Town Wall Fund Committee' comprising the citizens of Ahmedabad with aim of raising fund to repair and renovate the fort of Ahmedabad damaged in floods. Kankaria Lake is the largest lake in Ahmedabad in the Indian state of Gujarat. It is located in the south-eastern part of the city, in the Maninagar area. A lakefront is developed around it, which has many public attractions such as a zoo, toy train, kids city, tethered balloon ride, water rides, water park, food stalls, and entertainment facilities. The lakefront was revamped in 2007–2008. Kankaria Carnival is a week-long festival held here in the last week of December. Many cultural, art, and social activities are organised during the carnival. Etymology Several stories are told for its name Kankaria. One reason is given that it was named thus due to the large quantities of limestone (''kankar'' in Gujarati) dug out of it during excavation. Vastrapur Lake
Vastrapur Lake, officially Bhakta Kavi Narsinh Mehta Lake, is situated in western part of Ahmedabad in the Indian state of Gujarat. It is officially named after Narsinh Mehta. History The lake was beautified by the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) after 2002 and has since become a popular spot in the city. At times, the water from Narmada River is allowed to flow into this lake. The lake is surrounded by pretty gardens with much stonework. In 2013, Vastrapur lake was renamed to 'Bhakt Kavi Narsinh Mehta Sarovar' in memory of Narsinh Mehta whose statue was installed in the garden of the lake. In 2016, the lake almost dried up.
