Chevrolet Celebrity
The Chevrolet Celebrity is a front-drive, Mid-size car, mid-size passenger car line, manufactured and marketed by Chevrolet for model years 1982–1990, over a single generation. Marking the transition of the Mid-size car, mid-size Chevrolet range to front-wheel drive, the Celebrity succeeded the rear-drive Chevrolet Malibu line. Initially marketed between the Chevrolet Citation, Citation and the Chevrolet Impala, Impala within the Chevrolet model line, the Celebrity was later marketed between the Chevrolet Corsica, Corsica and Chevrolet Caprice, Caprice sedans. Oklahoma City Assembly was a General Motors automobile factory in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. History Construction on the plant started in 1974, and it opened in 1979 to produce the newly designed X-body cars for the 1980 model year. After X-body cars came A-body cars (1985-1996) and then the plant began producing the Oldsmobile Cutlass through 1999 and Chevrolet Malibu through 2001. The company spent $700,000,000 to convert the plant from building the Chevrolet Malibu to building the all-new GMT360 SUVs (Chevrolet TrailBlazer, GMC Envoy, Oldsmobile Bravada) in 2001 for the 2002 model year. Fremont Assembly was a General Motors automobile factory in Fremont, California, in the San Francisco area, replacing the older Oakland Assembly. Groundbreaking for the plant occurred in September 1961, and the plant produced its first vehicle on May 1, 1963. History and models The plant was built on the location of Framingham Airport, and ground was broken in 1945. The plant cost $12 million ($ in dollars ) and was one of three new plants that year. Ramos Arizpe () is a town that is part of the Saltillo metropolitan area located in the Mexican state of Coahuila. Sainte-Thérèse Assembly was a General Motors Canada automobile factory located in Sainte-Thérèse, Quebec. History The factory opened in 1966. It was located in the Montreal suburb of Sainte-Thérèse, Quebec. It later was the site for production of the F-body Chevrolet Camaro and Pontiac Firebird. The plant closed in 2002 and was demolished. In the mid-1980s, the plant was facing closure due to high absenteeism and low quality of the G-body cars built there. However, a new labor pact and improved quality, plus the availability of government-backed interest-free loans, prompted GM to expand and modernize the facility.
