Chervona Ruta (song)
''"Chervona Ruta"'' () is a popular Ukrainian song written by Volodymyr Ivasyuk in 1968 and performed by many singers. Due to its wide popularity, Chervona Ruta is widely considered a Ukrainian folk song. It is named after a mythology, mythological flower, the chervona ruta, which if found turning a red colour by a young girl, was meant to bring happiness in love. The song's popularity peaked with the version performed by the Ukrainian singer Sofia Rotaru. "Chervona Ruta" is popularly known in Ukrainian and other ethnic communities that were once part of the Soviet Union and likely to be sung at weddings, karaoke and other social settings. Volodymyr Mykhailovych Ivasiuk (, 4 March 1949 – 24–27 April 1979) was a Ukraine, Ukrainian songwriter, composer and poet. He is the author and composer of the widely popular song "Chervona Ruta (song), Chervona Ruta" popularized by Sofia Rotaru in 1971, and later covered by other singers. Biography Ivasiuk was born in Kitsman, Chernivtsi Oblast. His father Mykhailo Ivasiuk was a well-known writer from Bukovyna. His mother Sofiya Ivasiuk, from Zaporizhzhia Oblast, was a teacher in a local school. He had two sisters, Halyna (b. 1944) and Oksana (b. 1960). As early as the age of five, Volodymyr began learning to play the violin at a music school. Later, he learnt to play the piano as well. ''Rhododendron myrtifolium'' ( syn. ''Rhododendron kotschyi''), the myrtle-leaved rhododendron, (Eastern) Carpathian rhododendron, Chervona ruta () or mountain peony () is a species of flowering plant in the family Ericaceae. This evergreen shrub is common in some high mountain ranges of Eastern Europe, particularly Bulgaria, Romania and Ukraine. ''Rhododendron myrtifolium'' was first described in 1851 by Schott and Kotschy. It's the only rhododendron species native to the Carpathians and the Balkan Mountains. The species blooms in June-July. It's a close relative of the alpenrose (''Rhododendron ferrugineum''), replacing it to the east of its range. The Eurovision Song Contest 2004 was the 49th edition of the Eurovision Song Contest. Vasyl Ivanovych Zinkevych (; born 1 May 1945) is a Ukrainian singer, actor, dancer and costume designer. Alongside Nazariy Yaremchuk, Sofia Rotaru and Volodymyr Ivasyuk, Zinkevych was one of the faces of the Ukrainian roots revival music of the 1970s.
