Chennai Lions is an Indian professional table tennis franchise based in Chennai, that plays in Ultimate Table Tennis. It was established in 2019 by film director Aishwarya R. Dhanush and entrepreneur Sameer Bharat Ram. They are the reigning champions of the league after defeating Dabang Delhi TTC in 2019 UTT finals. The Ultimate Table Tennis is a professional level table tennis league in India. It was launched in 2017 and contested by 6 teams. It is organized by 11Sports promoted by Niraj Bajaj and Vita Dani and held under the aegis of Table Tennis Federation of India. It is broadcast by Star Sports (Indian TV network), Star Sports. The current champions are Chennai Lions, who won the title in their debut season after defeating the defending champions Dabang Delhi TTC in the season 3 finals in 2019. Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium (Chennai)
Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium (also known as the Marina Arena) is a multi-purpose stadium in Chennai, India. It has a capacity to seat 40,000 people. It hosts football matches and athletic competitions. The complex also houses a multipurpose indoor stadium with a seating capacity of 5,000 which hosts volleyball, basketball, table tennis games. The stadium is also used for functions and concerts. Dabang Delhi T.T.C. (previously known as Dabang Smashers TTC) is an Indian professional table tennis franchise based in New Delhi, that plays in Ultimate Table Tennis. It was established in 2017 as one of the franchise in Ultimate Tennis League. They were champions of the league defeating Falcons TTC in the final of 2018 season, but lost out in the 2019 season after reaching the finals. Achanta Sharath Kamal (born 12 July 1982) is an Indian professional table tennis player. He is the first Indian table tennis player ever to become ten times Senior National Champion hence breaking the record of eight-time National Champion Kamlesh Mehta. In 2019 he was awarded the Padma Shri, India's fourth highest civilian award and in 2022, he was awarded the Khel Ratna Award, India's highest sporting honour. His ITTF world ranking is 32 . He beat Joo Se Hyuk and Chuang Chih-yuan, world no. 8 and 16 respectively in 2015 28th Asian cup at Jaipur. Petrissa Solja (born 11 March 1994) is a German table tennis player. Solja won silver in the team event in the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. She reached her highest world ranking of thirteenth in March 2016. Personal life Solja was born in Kandel, Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany, into a table tennis-playing family; her mother, Dagmar Solja-Andruszko, played table tennis for ATSV Saarbrücken.
