Chempanthotty
Sreekandapuram is a municipality in Kannur district, in the Indian state of Kerala. Location The town is located on the bank of the Valapattanam river which flows into Arabian sea. It is situated northeast of Kannur, east of Taliparamba and northwest of Iritty. History Sreekandapuram was historically ruled by the Mushika Kingdom. During the 9th century, Ad malik ibndinar founded Mosques at Kodungallur and Madayi and came to Pazhayangadi(Sreekandapuram) travelling by the river and founded 3rd Mosque here. Since the middle of 20th century, people from Northern Travancore migrated here at places like Chempanthotty, Madambam, Chundaparamba, Alex Nagar, Kotturvayal, Karayathumchal etc. They were of different religions but most of them were Christians; churches, roads and schools were established here. Taliparamba
Taliparamba (also known as Perinchelloor and Lakshmipuram) is a Municipality in Taliparamba taluk of Kannur district, Kerala, India. The municipal town spreads over an area of and is inhabited by 44,247 number of people. Etymology The town's name may be derived from "Tali" (plate) and "Parambu" (area or ground), and from the legend of Rajarajeshwara Temple. According to this legend, the Ikshvaku King Maandhatha offered great penance to Shiva who in return gifted him with a Shiva Linga and instructed him to place it at a site where there had never been a cremation ground. He found a space the size of a plate in Perinchelloor, and hence the name Taliparamba became attached to the area. Lakshmipuram, a previous name for the city, means place of prosperity. 2020 Kerala Floods
During the heavy rainfall over the monsoon period from 1 June to 18 August 2020, all 14 districts in Kerala were affected with 104 dead and 40 injured. Five districts in Kerala were flooded on 7 August 2020 (Idukki, Wayanad, Malappuram, Thrissur and Kottayam). Major reported incidents in relation to flooding include a landslide in Idukki district on 6 August, claiming 66 lives and an Air India plane crash that caused the death of 21 people. The 2020 flood in Kerala marked the third year in a row of severe monsoon flooding. The state is reeling from the destruction: loss of lives, livestock and agriculture and damage to property of approximately ₹19,000 crore. 2019 Kerala Floods
On 8 August 2019, due to heavy rainfall in the monsoon season, severe flood affected Kerala. As a security measure in the prevailing situation of heavy rains, the India Meteorological Department had issued a red alert in the 9 districts in Northern and Central Kerala, orange alert in 3 districts of Central Kerala, and yellow alert in the 2 districts of southern Kerala. Thousands of people have been evacuated to safer places and relief camps. A total of 121 people have died due to rain-related incidents as of 19 August 2019. Another deluge had hit the state in August 2018, in which over 470 people died and properties worth US$5.8 billion (₹40000 crore) were damaged.every year in Kerala floods have been caused. Karayathumchal is a small village in the Sreekandapuram area of Kannur district, Kerala state, India. Location Karayathumchal is located about east of Thaliparamba town. It is under the Irikkur Assembly Constituency. History Migration of people from southern Kerala in the 1950s to 1980s, mainly from Kottayam, dramatically changed the fortunes of Karayathumchal. A vast majority of these migrants were Christians who had a completely different social and agricultural background. These hard working people brought new agricultural practices to this area.
