Chemin-Grenier is a village in Mauritius located in Savanne District. The village is administered by the Chemin-Grenier Village Council under the aegis of the Savanne District Council. According to the 2011 census by Statistics Mauritius, the village population was 12,223. Savanne () or Savannah is a Districts of Mauritius, district of Mauritius, situated in the south of the island. The district has an area of 244.8 km2 and the population estimate was at 68,585 as at 31 December 2015. The southern part of the island is one of the most scenic and unspoilt. Mauritius ( ; french: Maurice, link=no ; mfe, label=Mauritian Creole, Moris ), officially the Republic of Mauritius, is an island nation in the Indian Ocean about off the southeast coast of the African continent, east of Madagascar. It includes the main island (also called Mauritius), as well as Rodrigues, Agaléga and St. Brandon. The islands of Mauritius and Rodrigues, along with nearby Réunion (a French overseas department), are part of the Mascarene Islands. The main island of Mauritius, where most of the population is concentrated, hosts the capital and largest city, Port Louis. The country spans and has an exclusive economic zone covering . Arab sailors were the first to discover the uninhabited island, around 975, and they called it ''Dina Arobi''. The Districts of the Republic of Mauritius are the second-level administrative divisions after the Outer Islands of Mauritius. Mauritius Island Mauritius Island is divided into nine districts which consist of one city, four towns, and 130 villages. Its capital is Port Louis. Statistics Mauritius formerly known as the Central Statistics Office (CSO) is the national statistical agency of Mauritius. It operates under the aegis of the Ministry of Finance and Economic Development and is responsible for all statistical activities except for fisheries and health statistics which fall under the responsibility of the respective ministry. According to the Statistics Act No. 38 of 2000, "Statistics Mauritius shall constitute the central statistical authority and depository of all officials statistics produced in Mauritius and as such, shall collect, compile, analyse and disseminate accurate, relevant, timely and high quality statistics and related information on social, demographic, economic and financial activities to serve the needs of public and private users." Mauritius Time, or MUT, is the time zone used by the Indian Ocean island nation of Mauritius. The zone is four hours ahead of UTC ( UTC+04:00). Mauritius does not use daylight saving time, however, it has been used in the past. Daylight saving time was first introduced in Mauritius in 1982, however, it was discontinued the following year. It was re-introduced in 2008, however, it was not used in 2009 or since. In 2008, the period started at 2 am UTC+5 (1 am UTC+4) on 26 October 2008 (the last Sunday in October), and ended at 2 am UTC+5 (1 am UTC+4) on 29 March 2009 (the last Sunday in March). Mauritius is in the Southern Hemisphere, so summer begins towards the end of the year.
