''Cheers'' is an American television sitcom, created by Glen and Les Charles, Glen Charles & Les Charles and James Burrows, that aired on NBC for eleven seasons from September 30, 1982, to May 20, 1993. The show was produced by Charles/Burrows/Charles Productions in association with Paramount Television (original), Paramount Television. The show is set in the Cheers Beacon Hill, titular bar in Boston, where a group of locals meet to drink, relax, socialize, and escape from their day-to-day issues. Sam Malone
Samuel "Mayday" Malone is a fictional character and the protagonist of the American television show ''Cheers'', portrayed by Ted Danson and created by Glen and Les Charles. Sam is a former relief pitcher for the Boston Red Sox baseball team who owns and tends the bar called "Cheers". He is also a recovering alcoholic and a notorious womanizer. Although his celebrity status was short-lived, Sam retains that standing within the confines of Cheers, where he is beloved by the regular patrons. Cheers Beacon Hill is a bar/restaurant located on Beacon Street in the Beacon Hill neighborhood of Boston, Massachusetts, across from the Boston Public Garden. Founded in 1969 as the Bull & Finch Pub, the bar is best remembered internationally as the exterior of the bar seen in the NBC sitcom ''Cheers'', which ran between 1982 and 1993. The Bull & Finch changed its name to Cheers in 2002 after closing a deal with NBC. History The Bull and Finch Pub was founded in 1969 by Thomas Kershaw and a partner. The two owned a building in Beacon Hill, Hampshire House, and wanted to find a use for the basement which at the time was inefficiently used as just storage. They tried to model the Bull & Finch on English pubs, complete with accoutrements imported from England. One story behind its name is that it is a reference to the architect Charles Bulfinch, who designed the Massachusetts State House among other buildings. Brothers Glen Gerald Charles (born February 18, 1943) and Les Charles (born March 25, 1948) are American screenwriters and television producers, best known for working on ''Taxi'' and co-creating ''Cheers''. ''Cheers'' is the Spanish version of the popular 1980s American sitcom of same name created by Glen and Les Charles and James Burrows. It was produced by Plural Entertainment and Tom Collins and broadcast by Telecinco. It was first aired on 11 September 2011, and follows the same theme as its American counterpart. Production On April 25, 2011, Telecinco unveiled the names of the main actors for the new sitcom, Antonio Resines and Alexandra Jiménez. Resines would be Frasier Crane and Jiménez would be Rebecca Howe. Three days later, both producing companies, Plural Entertainment and Tom Collins Productions, started filming the pilot episode. On July 28, 2011, Mediaset Spain presented on a press conference the remake of ''Cheers'' with the future main cast members of the series, among them Alberto San Juan.
