Chavez-Vilchez (C-133 15)
''H.C. Chavez-Vilchez and Others v Raad van bestuur van de Sociale verzekeringsbank and Others'' (2017) C-133/15 (known as the Chavez-Vilchez ruling), was a decision of the European Court of Justice (ECJ) upon a request for a preliminary ruling, referred to the ECJ by the (Dutch) Centrale Raad van Beroep. . The Centrale Raad van Beroep (Central Board of Appeal) is the highest administrative court that deals with appeals related to social security and civil service matters. The questions submitted concerned the conditions under which a parent who is not a national of a Member State of the European Union can derive a right of residence from the fact that his/her child is a national of a Member State. The European Court of Justice (ECJ), officially the Court of Justice (), is the supreme court of the European Union in matters of European Union law. The European Migration Network (EMN) is a network funded by the European Union (EU) with the aim of providing EU institutions, national institutions and authorities as well as the general public with up-to-date, reliable and comparable data on migration and asylum. The aim is to report on the current discourse on migration and asylum in order to support political decision-making processes within the European Union. Origin The need for Member States to exchange information on all aspects of migration at European level and thus contribute to a common asylum and immigration policy was proposed by the European Council in 2001 and implemented by the European Commission. The EMN began work as a pilot project in 2003. Council Decision 2008/381/EC of 14 May 2008 put the EMN on a permanent footing.
