Chattaroy, Washington
Chattaroy is an unincorporated community in Spokane County, Washington, United States. The town is located on U.S. Route 2 approximately 10 miles north-northeast of Spokane at the confluence of the Little Spokane River and Deer Creek. Name Originally, Chattaroy was named Kidd. Kidd was renamed to Chattaroy at the request of the Great Northern Railroad. There was another town named Kidd (in Montana) that was on the Great Northern Line so the railroad requested a name change to avoid confusion. Mrs Robert Cowgill and Mrs Alexander B. Owen renamed Kidd to the name of Chattaroy. Chattaroi ( no “y”) was the hero in a novel that these two women were reading at the time. They changed the French spelling of “roi” to “roy”. The Köppen climate classification is one of the most widely used climate classification systems. It was first published by German-Russian climatologist Wladimir Köppen (1846–1940) in 1884, with several later modifications by Köppen, notably in 1918 and 1936. Spokane Falls & Northern Railway
The Spokane Falls & Northern (SF&N) is a historic railroad that operated in northeast Washington state. The SF&N initially connected the city of Spokane (then called Spokane Falls) with the Canada–United States border at Waneta, British Columbia. Initial proposal & planning Daniel Chase Corbin had significant funds, and access to investors, gained through his experience in the building, operation, and sale of small railroads. Consequently, Spokane businessmen seeking a railroad north from Spokane to Colville, but unable to finance the project, approached him. In February 1889, Corbin became general manager, senior officers were largely the New York financiers, and Edward J. Roberts was appointed as chief construction engineer. Little Spokane River
The Little Spokane River is a major tributary of the Spokane River, approximately long, in eastern Washington in the United States. It drains a rural area of forested foothills and a farming valley north of the city of Spokane along the Idaho–Washington border. It has two branches, one starting west of Newport and the other stemming from Eloika lake farther west. The two branches come together between the communities of Elk upstream and Milan downstream. The supply from Eloika is quite warm in the summer and has different fish habitat than the colder branch from Newport. The best trout fishing is where the two branches come together, but is on privately owned land. It is also a privately owned water body, which is rare.
