Chatmonchy
was a three-piece all-female rock band which consisted of Eriko Hashimoto (guitar, vocals), Akiko Fukuoka (bass, chorus), and formerly Kumiko Takahashi (drums, chorus) who are from Tokushima Prefecture on the island of Shikoku, Japan. Since 2005, they were signed to Sony Music Japan's Ki/oon Records record label. In November 2017, the band announced that they were disbanding. The band had their final one-man concert on July 4, 2018, at the Nippon Budokan, and held their last "Konason Fest" on July 21 and 22. History 2000–2004: Band formation In 2000, Hashimoto formed chatmonchy in the city of Tokushima, Tokushima Prefecture. Having been to see her brother perform at the first concert she attended, she became keen on forming a trio. Although part of a brass band throughout junior high and high school, her brother began teaching her guitar. Junji Ishiwatari
is a Japanese musician, songwriter and record producer. He is also famous for being a guitarist of the Japanese band Supercar. Biography Ishiwatari found an ad looking for band members that had been posted by Miki Furukawa at a musical instrument store in Hachinohe. He made contact with her in 1995, invited his childhood friend Kōji Nakamura, and while still in high school they formed a band. Kōdai Tazawa later joined the band, which was named Supercar. Supercar made its debut with a major label in 1997 and in 1998 it released the influential debut album, ''Three Out Change''. Music critic Ian Martin has called it "one of the all-time great Japanese rock albums." Ishiwatari played guitar and wrote all the lyrics. Nippon Budokan
The , often shortened to simply Budokan, is an indoor arena located in Chiyoda, Tokyo, Japan. It was originally built for the inaugural Olympic judo competition in the 1964 Summer Olympics. While its primary purpose is to host martial arts contests, the arena has gained additional fame as one of the world's most outstanding musical performance venues. Japan Nite is an annual music event in North America which began in 1996, featuring Japanese rock, pop, and alternative music artists. Originally centered around South by Southwest in Austin, Texas, the event expanded in later years to include multi-city tours of the United States, and has often been the first US performance for the participating artists. History Japan Nite was conceived by Hiroshi Asada, former manager of Pizzicato Five, and Audrey Kimura, the founder of the independent Japanese label Benten.
