''Charumitra'' is a Hindi language historical play in one act by Ram Kumar Verma (b. 1905); a well known Hindi poet, playwright, critic, and historian. Sources give conflicting accounts to its date, with some sources giving the year as 1941 and others as 1942. Widely recognized as a masterpiece of modern Hindi theatre, an excerpt from the play was included in ''Modern Indian Literature, an Anthology: Plays and prose'' (1992). Ram Kumar Verma adapted the work into the English language, organizing the play in three acts and publishing it in 1957. The English translation of the play was acquired by the Library of Congress in 1978. ''Chakravartin Ashoka Samrat'' (English: ''The Great Emperor Ashoka'') is a 2015 Indian historical drama TV series that aired on Colors TV from 2 February 2015 to 7 October 2016. The show was created and written by author and screenwriter Faizan Mohammad and cast by Radhesh More. It stars Mohit Raina as Ashoka with Siddharth Nigam portraying the young version of the character. ''Chakravartin Ashoka Samrat'' was based on the life of Emperor Ashoka (304β232 BCE), the third emperor of the Mauryan dynasty of India. The series tells the story of how he faced the problems outside and inside Magadha, eventually rising to become its ruler. The historical drama was produced by Contiloe Entertainment and directed by Prasad Gavandi. The show premiered on 2 February 2015 with a 1-hour telecast duration for the first 20 episodes. Charumati
Charumati Maurya (Brahmi: ππΈ ππΌπΌ π«ππ»), sometimes given as Charumitra, was a Princess and daughter of Indian emperor Ashoka The Great through a concubine and the adopted daughter of his wife, Queen Asandhimitra. She was trained in nursing by her. She was married to a Nepalese prince Devapala Kshatriya in Kathmandu. She is credited to have founded the monastery of Chabahil (called Charumati Vihara), which is one of the oldest Buddhist monastery of Nepal. She is believed to have taken care of her father in his last years of life and accompanied him through his Buddhist pilgrimage along with Upagupta. While scripture had described her and emperor Ashoka visiting Nepal, no archaeological evidences were present till 2003. In 2003, while restoring Dhando chaitya, archaeologists discovered a brick bearing inscriptions with her name.
