Charlton, Victoria
Charlton is a town in western Victoria (Australia), Victoria, Australia. It is a small agricultural community straddling the Avoca River, located at the junction of the Calder Highway (A79) and Borung Highway (C239) and positioned in the last of the foothills of the Great Dividing Range. Halfway between Melbourne and Mildura, Charlton is a popular tourist stop. Charlton is host to the OK Motels Music festival held in February. History The traditional owners of the region are the Jaara people, part of the Djadjawurrung language group of the Kulin nation. They called the area "Youanduk", meaning a basin in a rock, because there were a number of depressions in the local rocks providing a reliable water supply. William Kaye (Australian Politician)
William Kaye (c.1820 – 10 May 1893) was a politician in colonial Victoria, member for Eastern Province in the Victorian Legislative Council. History Kaye was born in Yorkshire, England, and arrived in Port Phillip District in February 1842. He was a partner in a Melbourne firm of squatters' auctioneers, Kaye and Butchart. He was elected to the first wholly elective Legislative Council for Eastern Province, being sworn in on 1 November 1856. Kaye was disqualified from the Council on 1 February 1857 for bribery under the Election Act. 2010 Victorian Floods
The 2010 Victorian floods were a widespread series of flood events across the state of Victoria, Australia. The floods, which followed heavy rain across southeastern Australia in early September 2010, caused the inundation of about 250 homes, hundreds of evacuations and millions of dollars of damage. Weather warnings were initially issued for Victoria on Thursday 2 September and rain began to fall on the Friday, continuing through the weekend to Tuesday. Heavy rain fell in most regions of the state, particularly at higher altitudes in the state's west and northeast, flooding the upper reaches of many of Victoria's major rivers.
