Charlotte Macdonald
Charlotte Jean Macdonald is a New Zealand historian. After studying as an undergraduate at Massey University, she earned her PhD from University of Auckland and is now a professor at Victoria University of Wellington. Early life Macdonald has a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) from Massey University, and a Doctor of Philosophy from the University of Auckland. The title of her 1986 doctoral thesis was ''Single Women as Immigrant Settlers in New Zealand, 1853–1871''. Professional career Macdonald is a professor of history at Victoria University of Wellington. Her areas of expertise include: 19th century colonies and empires; New Zealand history; gender and women's history; and cultural history of bodies, modernity, sport and spectating. Her work has been marked by innovative approaches to historical research methodology and story-telling. Barbara Brookes
Barbara Lesley Brookes (born 1955) is a New Zealand historian and academic. She specialises in women's history and medical history. She was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society Te Apārangi in 2022. Biography Brookes completed a bachelor's degree at the University of Otago in 1976, then won scholarships to Bryn Mawr College in Pennsylvania, where she completed a master's degree (1978) and a PhD (1982). Her PhD thesis topic was abortion in England during the inter-war period. Brookes was offered a post-doctoral scholarship at Otago and a permanent position in the university's Department of History in 1983. In 1986, Brookes and her colleague Dorothy Page introduced the first university-level women's history paper in New Zealand. In 2004, Brookes became head of the Department of History and guided the amalgamation of the department with the art history department to form the Department of History and Art History. Margaret Tennant
Margaret Anne Tennant is a New Zealand historian, currently Professor Emeritus at Massey University. Tennant's master's thesis, completed in 1976 at Massey University, was called ''Matrons with a mission,'' and was a study of women's organisations 1893–1915. Her doctoral thesis was completed in 1981, and concerned the charitable aid system in New Zealand. Tennant has written for Te Ara: The Encyclopedia of New Zealand. Tennant was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of New Zealand in 2009 and is currently on the Council. In 2017, Tennant was selected as one of the Royal Society Te Apārangi's "150 women in 150 words", celebrating the contributions of women to knowledge in New Zealand.
