Charlotte Henshaw
Charlotte Sarah Henshaw (born 16 January 1987) is a British Paralympic full-time athlete across multiple disciplines. Originally a swimmer, she changed to canoeing from 2017, becoming the reigning World champion in the KL2 (six-time) and VL3 (four-time) 200m events. In September 2021, at the delayed 2020 Summer Paralympics in Tokyo, she became a Paralympic champion at her fourth games, winning the Women's KL2 event. In Paris at the 2024 Summer Paralympics, Henshaw was the only Paracanoe athlete to win double gold - winning the inaugural VL3 event and retaining her KL2 title. Henshaw was recruited to the British Paracanoe team in June 2021, specialising in KL2 Kayak, and VL3 Va'a events. Previously a swimmer specialising in 100 metres breaststroke SB6, Henshaw was a European champion and Paralympic medalist from the early 2010's. The Most Excellent Order of the British Empire is a British order of chivalry, rewarding valuable service in a wide range of useful activities. The 2018 ICF Canoe Sprint World Championships, the 44th edition of the World Championships, were held in Montemor-o-Velho, Portugal, from 22 to 26 August 2018. Explanation of events Canoe sprint competitions were contested in either a Canadian canoe (C), an open canoe with a single-blade paddle, or in a kayak (K), a closed canoe with a double-bladed paddle. Each canoe or kayak can hold one person (1), two people (2), or four people (4). For each of the specific canoes or kayaks, such as a K-1 (kayak single), the competition distances can be 200, 500, 1000 or 5000 metres. The ICF Canoe Sprint World Championships are an international event in canoe racing, one of two top-tier Summer Olympic sport events organized by the International Canoe Federation (the other being the ICF Canoe Slalom World Championships). Paracanoeing At The 2024 Summer Paralympics – Women's VL3
Paracanoeing at the 2024 Summer Paralympics in Paris, France took place at Vaires-sur-Marne Nautical Stadium, the same venue that hosted rowing. This was the third appearance of the paracanoe in the Summer Paralympics. There was five canoe sprint events for both men and women, three in kayak and two in va'a in each category. Qualification 100 slots (50 male, 50 female) are allocated. An NPC can earn a maximum of one eligible canoeist quota per medal event and a maximum of five male and five female quota slots in total. However, the NPC can enter up to two athletes in an event if an athlete has qualified in one boat (Kayak or outrigger), but is also eligible for the classification in the other type of boat in which a different athlete has won a quota. 2016 IPC Swimming European Championships
The 2016 IPC Swimming European Championships was an international swimming competition. It was held in Funchal, Madeira running from 30 April to 7 May. Around 450 athletes from 50 different countries attended the competition. This was the last major swimming tournament for disabled athletes prior to the 2016 Summer Paralympics in Rio, and acted as a qualifying event for the Rio Games. To increase the possibility of qualification for top swimmers, the championships was made an Open tournament allowing competitors from countries outside Europe to compete.
