Charlie Pendergast
Charlie Pendergast (1899-1972) was an Australian rugby league footballer who played in the 1920s. He played for Newtown in the New South Wales Rugby League (NSWRL) competition. Playing career Pendergast made his first grade debut for Newtown against North Sydney in Round 1 1925 at the Sydney Sports Ground. Pendergast made 11 appearances for Newtown in his debut season as the club finished last on the table. Over the next few seasons, Pendergast became a regular in the Newtown side as the club finished mid table but did not reach the finals. In 1928, Newtown finished last on the table again and claimed the wooden spoon winning only 1 game all season. In 1929, Newtown had a complete form reversal and finished 4th on the table. The club then went on to upset St George 8–7 at Earl Park, Arncliffe in the semi-final to reach the 1929 NSWRL grand final. Earl Park, Arncliffe
Earl Park is a former sports field in the Sydney suburb of Arncliffe, New South Wales, Arncliffe. From 1925 to 1939 it was the site of New South Wales Rugby Football League Premiership club, St. George Dragons, St. George's home ground and headquarters. The ground was provided by a club benefactor named Lancelot Lewis Earl (1862-1938). Lancelot Earl owned and lived on the Earl Park estate until his death in 1938. The estate was sold in 1940 and a factory was built on the site. St. George The St George Dragons played their home games at Earl Park from 1925 until 1939 in the New South Wales Rugby Football League Premiership. Earl Park was situated opposite the Arncliffe, New South Wales, Arncliffe Railway Station, and was built on the site that one was a flourishing market garden. The South Sydney District Rugby League Football Club, also known as the South Sydney Rabbitohs, is an Australian professional rugby league football club based in the Sydney suburb of Maroubra, New South Wales, Maroubra that competes in the National Rugby League (NRL). Ramsgate is a suburb in southern Sydney, in the state of New South Wales, Australia 16 km south of the Sydney central business district. It is part of the St George area. Sydney Sports Ground
The Sydney Sports Ground No. 1 was a stadium and dirt track racing venue in Sydney, New South Wales. The ground was located where the car park of the Sydney Football Stadium (SFS) currently sits. The ground had two main grandstands and was surrounded by a grass covered hill, giving it a capacity of more than 35,000. It was demolished along with the smaller No.2 Ground in 1986 to allow the building of the SFS, which opened in 1988. During its lifespan the sports ground hosted rugby league, rugby union, soccer, motorcycle speedway, and speedway car racing.
