Charlie Lott
Brigadier Charles Alexander Sylvester Lott is a former New Zealand military officer who served as Deputy Chief of Army from 2011 to 2012, and was Chief of the Joint Defence Services, in a civilian capacity, from 2015 to 2019. Biography Lott served with the Royal New Zealand Electrical and Mechanical Engineers and graduated from the Officer Cadet School, Portsea in 1978. In the 1990s, he served with the New Zealand Supply Contingent Somalia, recounting in a later interview the harrowing experience of travelling by road from UNOSOM headquarters in the university compound to the airport: He also recalled the long hours worked on the Somalia mission, and the large volume of rations distributed, including live goats. The New Zealand Order of Merit () is an order of merit in the New Zealand royal honours system. It was established by royal warrant on 30 May 1996 by Elizabeth II, Queen of New Zealand, "for those persons who in any field of endeavour, have rendered meritorious service to the Crown and nation or who have become distinguished by their eminence, talents, contributions or other merits", to recognise outstanding service to the Crown and people of New Zealand in a civil or military capacity. Papakura Military Camp
Papakura Military Camp is a New Zealand Army military camp located in the Auckland suburb of Papakura North, in northern New Zealand. It is the home of the New Zealand Special Air Service. Geography The camp was established on the outskirts of the Papakura Town Centre in 1939. Fletcher Construction was awarded a contract to build one complete battalion block and work on a second battalion block was divided between Fletcher Construction, N Cole and A J Good. Other works built by the Stevenson family. and remains an important army base for New Zealand. It incorporates the New Zealand SAS training area and a local suburban area of army homes for personnel on Arimu Road and Russell Avenue in the same vicinity. Until recently, the majority of the homes have now been sold for private use, but the area still remains restricted as a Defence Area. The 1st New Zealand Special Air Service Regiment, abbreviated as 1 NZSAS Regt, is the special forces unit of the New Zealand Army, closely modelled on the British Special Air Service (SAS). It was formed on 7 July 1955. It traces its origins to the Second World War and the famous Long Range Desert Group that New Zealanders served with. The New Zealand Government states that NZSAS is the "premier combat unit of the New Zealand Defence Force" and it has been operationally deployed to locations including the Pacific region, Afghanistan, and the jungles of South-East Asia.
