Pinoy Big Brother Contestants
''Pinoy'' ( or ) is a common informal self-reference used by Filipinos to refer to citizens of the Philippines and their culture as well as to overseas Filipinos in the Filipino diaspora. A Pinoy who has any non-Filipino foreign ancestry, particularly white ancestry, is often informally called ''Tisoy'', derived from Spanish ''mestizo''. Many Filipinos refer to themselves as ''Pinoy'', sometimes the feminine ''Pinay'' ( ), instead of the standard term ''Filipino''. ''Filipino'' is the widespread formal word used to call a citizen of the Philippines. ''Pinoy'' is formed by taking the last four letters of ''Filipino'' and adding the diminutive suffix -y in the Tagalog language (the suffix is commonly used in Filipino nicknames: e.g. "Noynoy" or "Kokoy" or "Toytoy"). Though the mere status as peoples and the right to self-determination, as for example in the case of Indigenous peoples (''peoples'', as in all groups of indigenous people, not merely all indigenous persons as in ''indigenous people''), does not automatically provide for independent sovereignty and therefore secession. Indeed, judge Ivor Jennings identified the inherent problems in the right of "peoples" to self-determination, as i ...
