Charlie Favis
Charlie Favis is a Filipino sports executive and journalist. He has notably served as general manager of Formula Shell Zoom Masters from 1988 until 1994. He also served as commissioner of the Philippine Basketball League (PBL) from 1994 until 1996. Career Favis graduated at the De La Salle University with BS Business Administration & AB Behavioral Science in 1966. While at La Salle, he is a member of its Track and Field competing in NCAA. He later worked at the Procter & Gamble Philippines until 1970, and worked in Pilipinas Shell Petroleum Corporation until 1988 as a office worker. But in 1988, he was appointed at the Formula Shell basketball team. He was notable for drafting UP Maroon Ronnie Magsanoc, and its teammate Benjie Paras in 1989. Under Favis' watch, he oversaw the first two championship won by Shell. Philippine Basketball League
The Philippine Basketball League (PBL) was a commercial semi-professional basketball league in the Philippines. The league was composed of several commercial teams with several collegiate and provincial stars. History The PBL was formed on May 6, 1983, a brainchild of San Miguel Corporation chairman Danding Cojuangco, under its original name the Philippine Amateur Basketball League (PABL). It was the successor of the defunct Manila Industrial and Commercial Athletic Association (MICAA), which folded during the early-1980s. During the inaugural PABL tournament, 37 teams divided into four divisions from collegiate and commercial ranks participated in the tournament that was played in the historic Rizal Memorial Coliseum. De La Salle University emerged champion in the league's dry-run. Towards the end of 1983, 16 teams founded the PABL and the league held its first official tourney, the Founder's Cup. Ronnie Magsanoc
Ronald "Ronnie" Magsanoc (born April 11, 1966) is a Filipino professional basketball coach, analyst, and former player in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA). He was known for his moniker "The Point Laureate". Jose "Joe" Lipa, Jr. is a Filipino basketball coach and executive who currently coaching the Terrafirma Dyip's 3x3 team in the PBA 3x3. Lipa formerly coached his alma mater, the University of the Philippines, in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines men's basketball. He also had a head coaching stint for the Manila Beer Brewmasters, Ateneo Blue Eagles, the Shell Turbo Chargers and the FedEx Express of the professional Philippine Basketball Association. Lipa is also a former head coach of the national basketball team of the Philippines, coaching the team to a bronze medal finish in the 1986 Asian Games. Venancio Johnson Paras Jr. (born October 2, 1968), better known as Benjie Paras, is a Filipino actor, comedian, and retired professional basketball player who played for the Shell Turbo Chargers and San Miguel Beermen of the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA). He is the only PBA player to win both Rookie of the Year and Most Valuable Player honors, in a single season. As its star center, Paras led the Shell Turbo Chargers to championship titles. Philip Ella Juico is a Filipino sports official. He is the chairman emeritus of the Philippine Athletics Track and Field Association (PATAFA), the NSA for athletics in the Philippines. He was president of PATAFA from 2015 to 2022. Juico served as Secretary of Agrarian Reform from 1987 to 1989. The Shell Turbo Chargers were a Philippine Basketball Association team from 1985 to 2005. It won four PBA championships, two from 1998 to 1999. Shell sold its franchise to PBL team Welcoat Dragons, Welcoat Paints in February 2006. The 1992 PBA First Conference finals was the best-of-7 series basketball championship of the 1992 PBA First Conference, and the conclusion of the conference playoffs. Shell Rimula X Zoomers and San Miguel Beermen played for the 51st championship contested by the league.
