Charlie Cojuangco
Carlos "Charlie" Oppen Cojuangco (April 14, 1963 – February 22, 2022) was a Filipino politician who served in the Philippine House of Representatives for two different districts: Tarlac's 1st district and Negros Occidental's 4th district. Political career Cojuangco served in the Philippine House of Representatives as congressman of Negros Occidental's 4th district from 1998 to 2007, and then as congressman of Tarlac's 1st district from 2016 until his death, when he replaced his uncle Henry Cojuangco, who died in 2015 and did not finish his term. Both were members of the Nationalist People's Coalition (NPC). He was supposed to run for a third consecutive term, but he suffered an untimely death on February 2022. Due to his passing, his son Jaime Cojuangco substituted for him, and subsequently won in the elections. The Cojuangco (; ; ; ) clan is a prominent Filipino family descended from Co Yu Hwan (), who migrated to the Philippines in 1861 from Hongjian Village, Jiaomei Township, Zhangzhou, Fujian. He was commonly called ''Khoân ko'' ("Brother Khuan") or ''Khó͘ Khoân ko'' / ''Khó͘ Hoân ko'' ("Brother Kho Khuan") among Hokkien Chinese Filipinos, and the latter was Hispanicized as Cojuangco (). He adopted the Christian name José Cojuangco ("El Chino" José) in 1865 when he moved to Bulacan. Negros Occidental's 4th Congressional District
Negros Occidental's 4th congressional district is one of the six congressional districts of the Philippines in the province of Negros Occidental. It has been represented in the House of Representatives of the Philippines, House of Representatives since 1987. The district consists of the area in north-central Negros Occidental immediately to the south of the capital city of Bacolod. It contains the cities of Bago, Negros Occidental, Bago and La Carlota, Negros Occidental, La Carlota, and the municipalities of Pontevedra, Negros Occidental, Pontevedra, Pulupandan, San Enrique, Negros Occidental, San Enrique and Valladolid, Negros Occidental, Valladolid.
