Charles William Oakes
Charles William Oakes (30 November 1861 – 2 July 1928) was an Australian politician. Early life Oakes was born in Wagga Wagga, New South Wales, to Agnes Jane Revelle and James Richard Oakes, a storekeeper. He was educated at state schools in Sydney, after which he became a jeweller and watchmaker. He was involved in local politics as a member of Paddington Council. He married Elizabeth Gregory on 1 September 1885. Political career In 1901, he was elected to the New South Wales Legislative Assembly as a Liberal Reform candidate for Paddington, and was re-elected in 1904 and 1907. He was appointed a minister without portfolio in the Wade ministry in 1907 until 1910, when he was one of three ministers defeated at the election. In 1913, he was elected to the Australian Senate as a Commonwealth Liberal Party Senator from New South Wales, he was not re-elected in the double dissolution election the following year. John Neild
John Cash Neild (4 January 1846 – 8 March 1911) was an Australian politician who served as a Senator from New South Wales from 1901 to 1910. Neild's family arrived in Australia in 1860, and he worked as an insurance agent and company manager before winning election to the New South Wales Legislative Assembly in 1885. He served intermittently until 1901 and had a tumultuous career as a backbencher, eventually contributing significantly to the fall of the Reid government in 1899. He also established his own volunteer regiment, which had a difficult and sometimes hostile relationship with military command. Elected in 1901 to the Senate, Neild was a vigorous supporter of old-age pensions, free trade and several other causes, but his ambitions of promotion were never realised. George Cann
George Cann (30 May 1871 – 18 October 1948) was an Australian politician who served in both the Parliament of Australia and the Parliament of New South Wales. At state level he served as a minister in the governments of Jack Lang during the 1920s. He was a miner before entering politics. Early life Cann was born at Shankhouse, Cramlington, Northumberland, England, educated at Cramlington National School and became a coalminer at eleven. His elder brother John Cann migrated to New South Wales in 1887. Cann married Catherine Roberts in 1890 and they had one daughter and one son. They migrated to NSW in 1900 and Cann worked as a miner near Lithgow and became involved in the Western Miners' Association. Carlo Camillo Lazzarini (; 24 April 1880 – 26 November 1952), also known as Charlie Lazzarini, was an Australian politician affiliated with the Labor Party. He was elected as a member of the New South Wales Legislative Assembly, where he served for 35 years. Early years The son of Italian immigrant Piedro (Peter) Lazzarini and his wife Hannah (Annie) Stubbs, Lazzarini was born at Wombat, near Young, New South Wales. He was educated at the Young convent school and Young Superior Public School, before becoming a tailor's apprentice. Greg McGirr
John Joseph Gregory McGirr (11 October 1879 – 23 March 1949) was an Australian politician who served in the New South Wales Legislative Assembly from 1913 to 1925, representing the Labor Party. He served as the party's leader (and Leader of the Opposition) for little over a month in 1923, during an internal dispute. He had earlier served as deputy leader and as Minister for Public Health under James Dooley. James Dooley (Australian Politician)
James Thomas Dooley (26 April 1877 – 2 January 1950) served twice, briefly, as Premier of New South Wales during the early 1920s. Early years Born in the townland of Curracreehan (possibly Currycreaghan), near Ballymahon, County Longford, Ireland, he was the fourth son of Thomas Dooley, a farmer, and his wife Elizabeth, née O'Connor. He arrived in Brisbane, Australia at the age of 8, where he attended a state school before commencing work as a draper's assistant at twelve and was later apprenticed to a tailor. He attended evening classes and joined the college's literary and debating society and the Labor Party. The New South Wales Rugby Union, or NSWRU, is the governing body for the sport of rugby union within most of the state of New South Wales in Australia. It is a member and founding union of Rugby Australia. Within Australia it is considered the strongest Union. The New South Wales Legislative Council, often referred to as the upper house, is one of the two chambers of the parliament of the Australian state of New South Wales. The other is the Legislative Assembly. Both sit at Parliament House in the state capital, Sydney. It is normal for legislation to be first deliberated on and passed by the Legislative Assembly before being considered by the Legislative Council, which acts in the main as a house of review. The Legislative Council has 42 members, elected by proportional representation in which the whole state is a single electorate.
