Charles William Carrico Sr.
Charles William Carrico Sr. (born November 6, 1961) is an American politician who served as a member of the Senate of Virginia from 2012 to 2020, representing the 40th district. He was previously a member of the Virginia House of Delegates from 2002 to 2012. Career From 2002 to 2011, he was a member of the Virginia House of Delegates, representing the 5th district in the southwestern part of the state. Prior to that, he was a Virginia State Trooper. Carrico's campaign for Senate was heavily financed by coal mining interests such as Alpha Natural Resources, Consol Energy and Richard Baxter Gilliam. Tenure and issues In 2005, Carrico introduced an amendment to the religious freedom clause of the Virginia state constitution, based on the Virginia Statute of Religious Freedom written by Thomas Jefferson. Virginia's 40th Senate District
Virginia's 40th Senate district is one of 40 districts in the Senate of Virginia. It has been represented by Republican Todd Pillion since 2020, succeeding retiring fellow Republican Charles William Carrico Sr. It is currently the most Republican-leaning district in the Virginia Senate. Geography District 40 covers the farthest corner of Southwest Virginia, including all of Grayson County, Lee County, Scott County, Washington County, and the City of Bristol, as well as parts of Smyth County, Wise County, and Wythe County. The district is located entirely within Virginia's 9th congressional district, and overlaps with the 1st, 4th, 5th, and 6th districts of the Virginia House of Delegates.
