Charles Veryard
Charles John Besley Veryard (1900–7 September 1967) was a City of Perth Councillor from 1927 until 1964 and Lord Mayor of Perth from 1964 to his death in 1967. Veryard was also a manager and director of West Cycles. He attended Hale School and played three seasons of football with West Perth Football Club between 1917 and 1920. The Charles Veryard Reserve in Bourke Street, North Perth is named in his honour. In August 1951, Veryard was convicted and fined for tax fraud after understating his income. Hale School
Hale School is an independent, Anglican day and boarding school for boys, located in Wembley Downs, a western suburb of Perth, Western Australia. Named after the school founded by Bishop Mathew Blagden Hale in 1858, Hale School claims to be the oldest private boys' school in Western Australia, a claim subsequently contested by historian and former Hale School Headmaster Dr Ken Tregonning. The school was originally situated at the Cloisters on St Georges Terrace in Perth, relocated to the Pensioner Guard Barracks at the top of St George's Terrace around 1880, and then to new Havelock Street premises in 1914 in West Perth. In 1961 the School moved to its current premises in Wembley Downs. The campus now consists of a junior school for Years Pre-Primary to 6, a middle school for Years 7 & 8 and a senior school for Year 9 to 12. The West Perth Football Club, nicknamed the Falcons, is an Australian rules football club located in Joondalup, Western Australia. West Perth competes in the West Australian Football League (WAFL) and WAFL Women's (WAFLW) and is the oldest existing Australian rules football club in Western Australia. John Veryard
John Veryard (14 November 1851 – 5 January 1924) was an Australian businessman and politician who served as a member of the Western Australian Legislative Assembly, Legislative Assembly of Western Australia from 1905 to 1908 and from 1914 to 1921. Veryard was born in London, England, to Jane (née Callcott) and John Besley Charles Veryard. His parents immigrated to Western Australia when he was an infant. After leaving school, Veryard initially worked in the offices of ''The Inquirer & Commercial News''. He later worked for periods as a cabinetmaker, bootmaker, produce merchant, and builder, before taking over his father's bakery business in 1886. Municipality Of Leederville
The Municipality of Leederville was a local government area in inner suburban Perth, Western Australia, based around the suburb of Leederville. It was established as the Leederville Road District on 3 May 1895. It was renamed the Municipality of Leederville on 3 April 1896. The municipal boundaries were extended on 17 November 1905. The municipality built the Leederville Town Hall in 1914, incorporating the existing Masonic Hall, which it adapted for council offices. However, in December 1914, two months after the hall's opening, the ''City of Perth Act 1914'', which would abolish the municipality, received royal assent. The building remains open for community use today and is state heritage-listed.
