Charles Stanfield Taylor
Charles Stanfield Taylor (1808 – November 1, 1865), sometimes Standfield, was an English-born politician and soldier. Biography Taylor was born in 1808, in London. His parents died when he was a child, and was raised by his uncle. He immigrated to New York City in 1828. He moved to Nacogdoches in 1830, which was part of Mexico at the time. He gained his Mexican citizenship on April 1, 1930. He fought in the Battle of Nacogdoches in 1832, and represented Nacogdoches in the Convention of 1832. In 1833, he moved to San Augustine, Texas, and was elected mayor on January 1, 1834. He returned to Nacogdoches that summer, and served as the land commissioner of San Augustine from April 25, 1835, to the beginning of the Texas Revolution. He was one of four representatives for Nacogdoches in the Convention of 1836. Taylor was a signer of the Texas Declaration of Independence. He moved to Louisiana for the duration of the revolution. Robert Anderson Irion (July 7, 1804 – March 2, 1861) was a physician, surveyor and politician who served as Secretary of State of Texas under Sam Houston's first presidency of the Republic of Texas. Early life Irion was born in Paris, Tennessee, in 1804 to John Poindexter Irion and Maacha (White) Irion. He was trained as physician graduating from Transylvania University in Lexington, Kentucky, in March, 1826. He began practicing medicine in Vicksburg, Mississippi. In 1832, following the death of his first wife, Ann Vick, he moved to Texas, first practicing medicine in San Augustine. He subsequently moved to Nacogdoches, where he became a surveyor and later, as tensions with Mexico rose, he resumed his practice of medicine. 2nd Texas Cavalry Regiment
The 2nd Texas Cavalry Regiment was a volunteer cavalry unit from Texas that fought in the Confederate Army during the American Civil War. The unit was organized in May 1861 as the 2nd Texas Mounted Rifles. In early 1862, the regiment took part in the unsuccessful New Mexico Campaign before retreating to Texas. In April 1862 the unit reorganized at Austin, Texas, as the 2nd Texas Cavalry. In January 1863, part of the regiment helped recapture Galveston while another part was captured at Arkansas Post. After moving to Louisiana, the unit fought at LaFourche Crossing, Second Donaldsonville, Kock's Plantation, Sterling's Plantation, and Bayou Bourbeux. It returned to Texas in winter 1863 and remained there until the surrender in June 1865.
