Charles R. J. Glover
Charles Richmond John Glover (1870–1936) was the Mayor of Adelaide from 1917 to 1919. He was in office when the City of Adelaide became a Lord Mayoralty in 1919, and so became Adelaide's first Lord Mayor. He served two further terms as Lord Mayor: from 1923 to 1925 and from 1930 to 1933. He was a company director, active in the Freemasons and philanthropist. Glover Playgrounds, Adelaide
The Glover Playgrounds are three playgrounds in the Adelaide Park Lands in Adelaide, South Australia. They were established by Charles Richmond Glover, Charles Glover, a Lord Mayor of Adelaide and a philanthropist. Despite maps to the contrary he had no relationship with the West Terrace, Adelaide, West Terrace playground. South Terrace, Adelaide The playground in Park 20 on South Terrace, Adelaide, South Terrace near Pulteney Street was established in 1918. The original shelter shed is still present. Its coordinates are LeFevre Terrace, North Adelaide The playground in Park 6 on LeFevre Terrace opposite the corner with Tynte Street was established in 1920 with a donation of £500 from Glover. The Adelaide Park Lands comprise the figure-eight configuration of land, spanning both banks of the River Torrens between Hackney and Thebarton, which encloses and separates the City of Adelaide area (including both the Adelaide city centre and North Adelaide) from the surrounding suburbia of greater metropolitan Adelaide, the capital city of South Australia. St John's Church, Adelaide
St. John's is an Anglican church at the south-east corner of the City of Adelaide dating from 1841. The first building was demolished in 1886 and its replacement opened in 1887. The first church In 1840 the first Anglican church building, Trinity Church, was erected on North Terrace, Adelaide, but soon demands arose for a second place of worship to cater for members in and around Unley and the foothills, and to that end Osmond Gilles donated to the Church Building Society of South Australia half an acre of his section 581 on Halifax Street near the corner of East Terrace and South Terrace.
