Charles Jolliffe
Charles James Jolliffe (1861–1943) was an English footballer who played in the Football League for Everton. Background Charles Jolliffe was a tall, lean footballer for Everton in the pre-Football League era. He was the number one choice as goalkeeper between October 1885 and October 1887. He lost his place to Robert Smalley as the Football League era dawned. League Debut Robert Smalley was Everton's regular goalkeeper in 1888–89. However, in match seven, the trip to County Ground, Derby Robert Smalley was injured so Jolliffe got the chance to make his Football League debut. The opponents were Derby County and the date was 20 October 1888. Derby County were described as a "poor side" by the commentators of that time and James Costley soon put Everton ahead. Lawrence Plackett
Lawrence Plackett, known as Lol Plackett, (born 1869) was an English footballer who played for Derby County and Nottingham Forest. His brother Harry was also a footballer. Lol Plackett' first club was Long Eaton Alexandra but there appear to be no records about this club. One source states Plackett signed in 1885 and another states he joined Derby County sometime in 1886. Lol Plackett played for Derby County for two seasons prior to the Football League commencing. In season 1887–88 Derby County reached the fifth round of the FA Cup, their best FA Cup campaign since their formation in 1884. It is not recorded whether Lol Plackett played in the 1887–88 FA Cup ties. Lol Plackett made his Football League and Club debut on 8 September 1888, playing as a forward, at Pike's Lane, the then home of Bolton Wanderers. George Bakewell
George Bakewell (13 May 1864 – 1928) was an English footballer who played in the Football League for Derby County and Notts County. George Bakewell started his playing career at Derby Midland in 1883, just two years after the club was formed. Edgar Chadwick
Edgar Wallace Chadwick (14 June 1869 – 14 February 1942) was a left-sided footballer who had a long and distinguished career with Everton during the 1890s. He was also the national coach for the Netherlands from 1908 to 1913. His cousin, Arthur Chadwick, also played for England and Southampton, while another cousin, Albert Chadwick, played for Everton.
