Charles Johnson (historian)
Charles Johnson, Commander of the Order of British Empire, CBE, Fellow of the British Academy, FBA, Fellow of the Society Antiquaries, FSA, Fellow of the Royal Historical Society, FRHistS (2 May 1870 – 5 November 1961) was an English historian and archivist. A graduate of Trinity College, Oxford, he worked in the Public Record Office from 1893 to 1930. There, he worked on classifying Chancery (medieval office), Chancery files and ancient miscellanea, and assisted with the publication of editions of the PRO's records. He also authored several editions of medieval documents, produced monographs, took part in the British Academy's effort to produce Dictionary of Medieval Latin from British Sources, a dictionary of medieval Latin, and sat on several academic administration boards. He was appointed a Commander of the Order of the British Empire in 1951 and elected a fellow of the British Academy in 1934.H. C. Charles Johnson (North Carolina Politician)
Charles Johnson (died July 23, 1802) was a Congressional representative from North Carolina. Johnson was born in Scotland; engaged as a planter; elected to the Continental Congress in 1781, 1784, and 1785, but did not attend; served in the state senate in 1781–1784, 1788–1790, and 1792 (and as Speaker in 1789 after the death of Richard Caswell); elected as a Republican in a special election to the Seventh Congress (serving from March 4, 1801, until his death on July 23, 1802, in Bandon, near Edenton, North Carolina); interment in Edenton Cemetery. Biography Johnson served in the North Carolina Senate representing Chowan County, North Carolina, from 1781 to 1784 and from 1788 to 1792. He was a candidate for the 4th congressional district in 1791, losing to incumbent Hugh Williamson, but was later elected to Congress from the 8th district in 1800, in which his one term was cut short by his death. Charley Lane Johnson (November 22, 1938 – September 3, 2024) was an American professional football player who was a quarterback in the National Football League (NFL). He played college football for the New Mexico State Aggies. Johnson played in the NFL for 15 years with three teams: the St. Louis Cardinals, Houston Oilers, and Denver Broncos. The F/V ''Charles W'', also known as Annie J Larsen, is a historic fishing schooner anchored in Petersburg, Alaska. At the time of its retirement in 2000, it was the oldest fishing vessel in the fishing fleet of Southeast Alaska, and the only known wooden fishing vessel in the entire state still in active service. Launched in 1907, she was first used in the halibut fisheries of Puget Sound and the Bering Sea as the ''Annie J Larsen''. In 1925 she was purchased by the Alaska Glacier Seafood Company, refitted for shrimp trawling, and renamed ''Charles W'' in honor of owner Karl Sifferman's father. The company was one of the pioneers of the local shrimp fishery, a business it began to phase out due to increasing competition in the 1970s.
