Charles Hoskins Master
Charles Hoskins Master (1846–1935) was one of the family owners of Barrow Green Court. Chairman of the Friary Brewery, Guildford and High Sheriff of Surrey. Family Born at Bilting House, Godmersham, Godmerstham, Kent 24 October 1846. Charles was the eldest son of Charles Hoskins Master 1816-1885 and Emily Borrer 1821–1892. One of thirteen children. He married Married Amy Morgan Bissett third daughter of John Jarvis Bisset, General J.J Bissett CB 9 October 1877. Children: They produced five children: Charles Edward Hoskins Master 1878 - 1960. Allied Breweries was the result of a 1961 merger between Ind Coope (of Burton), Ansells (of Birmingham), and Tetley Walker (of Leeds). In 1978, Allied Breweries merged with the food and catering group J. Lyons and Co to form Allied Lyons. The breweries business merged with Carlsberg in 1992 and became Carlsberg-Tetley, which is now part of Carlsberg Group, with Carlsberg-Tetley now known as Carlsberg UK. Admiral of the Fleet (Royal Navy), Admiral of the Fleet Sir Charles Edward Madden, 1st Baronet, , (5 September 1862 – 5 June 1935) was a Royal Navy officer who served during the First World War as Chief of the Staff to John Jellicoe, 1st Earl Jellicoe, Sir John Jellicoe in the Grand Fleet from 1914 to 1916 and as Second-in-Command of the fleet under David Beatty, 1st Earl Beatty, Sir David Beatty from 1916 to 1919. He was Commander-in-Chief of the Atlantic Fleet (United Kingdom), Atlantic Fleet after the war and served as First Sea Lord in the late 1920s. In that role, in order to avoid an arms race, he accepted parity with the United States in the form of 50 cruisers defending his position on the basis that he only actually had 48 cruisers anyway. Oxted Royal British Legion Clubhouse
Oxted is a town and civil parish in the Tandridge district of Surrey, England. It is at the foot of the North Downs, south-east of Croydon, west of Sevenoaks, and north of East Grinstead. Oxted is a commuter town and Oxted railway station has direct train services to London. Its main developed area is contiguous with the village of Limpsfield. The headwaters of the River Eden unite in the town, east of Titsey Place. The Eden feeds into Kent's longest river, the Medway. Exbury
Exbury is a village in Hampshire, England. It is in the civil parish of Exbury and Lepe. It lies just in the New Forest, near the Beaulieu River and about a mile from the Solent coast. It is best known as the location of Exbury House, built by the Rothschild family, and the famous Exbury Gardens. The Rothschild family still have significant land ownings in the area. Overview The village was originally in the southwest corner of the parish but moved inland in the early 19th century. The present village was built to provide homes for workers on the Exbury Estate and still does provide homes for a few workers but is now mainly private housing. A prominent feature of the village is a water tower which provided the water to the gardens that was used to water the plants. The Comrades of The Great War were formed in 1917 as an association to represent the rights of ex-service men and women who had served or had been discharged from service during World War I. Their Motto was "King, Country, Comradeship" The organisation was Empire-wide. Pewley Down
Pewley Down is a Local Nature Reserve on the southern outskirts of Guildford in Surrey, adjacent to Pewley Hill. It is owned and managed by Guildford Borough Council. The site is on a hill offering views south to St Martha's Hill, Chantry Wood, and beyond. History Pewley Down was owned by the Austens, a family of local merchants, from the early 16th century. Following the death of Robert Godwin-Austen in 1884, it passed to Henry Haversham Godwin-Austen. Partly as a result of the Agricultural Depression, his properties struggled financially, and Henry was declared bankrupt in 1898. In 1907, the bankruptcy trustees began to construct a road across Pewley Down in preparation for dividing the land into plots for housebuilding. Guildford () is a town in west Surrey, England, around south-west of central London.
