Charles Engola
Charles Okello Macodwogo Engola (12 October 1958 – 2 May 2023), commonly known as Charles Okello (Macodwogo) Engola, was a Ugandan politician and a retired colonel in the Uganda People's Defence Force. He was the State Minister for Labour, Employment and Industrial Relations in the Ugandan Cabinet, as well as the Member of Parliament representing Oyam North County when he was shot and killed by his bodyguard. Previously, he had held the position of Minister of State for Defence. Background and education Engola was born on 12 October 1958 in present-day Iceme, Oyam District. His parents were Chief (Jago) Nasan Engola, a well known and respected chief in Lango, and Ketula Engola of Awangi, and he was the grandson of Rwot Olong Adilo, and great-grandson of Rwot Olwa Abelli of Iceme. Oyam District
Oyam District is a district in Northern Uganda. Like most Ugandan districts, it is named after its 'chief town', Oyam, where the district headquarters are located. Location Oyam District is bordered by Gulu District to the north, Pader District to the northeast, Kole District to the east, Apac District to the south, Kiryandongo District to the southwest and Nwoya District to the west. Langi People
The Lango are a Nilo-Hamitic ethnic group of the Ateker peoples. They live in north-central Uganda, in a region that covers the area formerly known as the Lango District until 1974, when it was split into the districts of Apac and Lira, and subsequently into several additional districts. The current Lango Region now includes the districts of Amolatar, Alebtong, Apac, Dokolo, Kole, Lira, Oyam, Otuke, and Kwania. The total population of the Lango District is around 1,500,000. The Lango speak in “ LebLango”, a mixture of Ateker peoples dialects and broken Luo languages.
