Charles E. Wilhelm
Charles Elliott Wilhelm (born August 26, 1941) is a decorated retired United States Marine Corps General who served two combat tours of duty in Vietnam War, Vietnam. He later served as Commanding General of the 1st Marine Division (United States), 1st Marine Division; as a Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense; and as the Commander, U.S. Southern Command (1997–2000). General Wilhelm retired from the Marine Corps in 2000, after 37 years of service. Biography Charles E. Wilhelm was born in 1941, a native of Edenton, North Carolina. Wilhelm graduated from Florida Southern College in 1964 with a Bachelor of Arts, B.A. in journalism. Edenton, North Carolina
The town of Edenton is located on the Albemarle Sound in North Carolina's Inner Banks region. It is the county seat of Chowan County. The population was 4,397 at the 2020 census. Edenton served as the second official capital of North Carolina, during the colonial era as the Province of North Carolina, though other than housing the governor's official residence, it did not have other governmental functions. It served as capital from 1722 to 1743, when the capital was moved to Brunswick.
