Charles Daniel (Royal Navy Officer)
Admiral Sir Charles Saumarez Daniel, (23 June 1894 – 11 February 1981) was a Royal Navy officer who went on to be Third Sea Lord and Controller of the Navy. Naval career Educated at Southcliffe School in Filey, the Royal Naval College, Osborne, and the Royal Naval College, Dartmouth, Daniel was commissioned into the Royal Navy in 1912. He served in the First World War taking part in the Battle of Jutland in 1916. He was made Experimental Commander at HM Signal School in 1928 and executive officer of in 1933 before becoming a member of staff for the Joint Planning Committee at the Admiralty in 1936. He served in the Second World War initially as Captain (Destroyers) for the 8th Destroyer Flotilla and then, from 1940, as Director of Plans at the Admiralty. He went on to be Captain of in 1941, Flag Officer, Combined Operations in 1943 and Vice Admiral in charge of Administration for the British Pacific Fleet in 1944. Admiral is a senior rank of the Royal Navy, which equates to the NATO rank code Ranks and insignia of NATO, OF-9, outranked only by the rank of Admiral of the Fleet (Royal Navy), admiral of the fleet. Royal Navy officers holding the ranks of Rear Admiral (Royal Navy), rear admiral, Vice Admiral (Royal Navy), vice admiral and admiral of the fleet are sometimes considered generically to be admirals. Frank Simpson (British Army Officer)
General Sir Frank Ernest Wallace Simpson, (21 March 1899 – 28 July 1986) was a senior British Army officer during the 1940s. Military career Born on 21 March 1899, Simpson was educated at Bishop Cotton Boys' School, Bedford School, Trinity Hall, Cambridge, and at the Royal Military Academy, Woolwich. He was commissioned into the Royal Engineers in May 1916. He served in the First World War in France and Belgium in 1918 and then after the war went to Afghanistan and the North West Frontier of India and attended the Staff College, Camberley from 1931 to 1932. Simpson also served in the Second World War, initially in France and Belgium with the British Expeditionary Force and was involved in the defence of Arras and then the Dunkirk evacuation in 1940. John Slessor
Marshal of the Royal Air Force Sir John Cotesworth Slessor, (3 June 1897 – 12 July 1979) was a senior commander in the Royal Air Force (RAF), serving as Chief of the Air Staff from 1950 to 1952. As a pilot in the Royal Flying Corps during the First World War, he saw action with No. 17 Squadron in the Middle East, earning the Military Cross, and with No. 5 Squadron on the Western Front, where he was awarded the Belgian Croix de Guerre. Between the wars he commanded No. 4 Squadron in England, and No. 3 (Indian) Wing, earning the Distinguished Service Order for operations with the latter in Waziristan.
