Charles Campbell Worthington
Charles Campbell Worthington, or C.C. Worthington, (January 1854 – October 1944) was an American industrialist whose efforts were in part responsible for the foundation of the Professional Golfers Association. He invented the first commercially successful gang lawnmower for fairway maintenance. Shawnee On Delaware
Shawnee on Delaware is an Unincorporated area#United States, unincorporated community on the Delaware River, part of Smithfield Township, Monroe County, Pennsylvania, Smithfield Township in Monroe County, Pennsylvania, United States. It is situated just south of the foothills of the Pocono Mountains, southwest of the Shawnee Mountain Ski Area and approximately west of New York City. Worthington Mower Company
The Worthington Mower Company, originally called the Shawnee Mower Factory, produced lawn mowers and light-duty tractors in the United States from the early 1920s until around 1959. Founded by Charles Campbell Worthington and run as a family business, in 1945 it was purchased by Jacobsen Manufacturing. It continued to produce tractors and mowers in Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania, until around 1959. Background Charles Campbell Worthington (1854–1944) was a successful businessman, owner of the Worthington Pump and Machinery Corporation. Worthington Hall, now known as the Shawnee Playhouse, was an historic, American theatre that was located in Smithfield Township, Monroe County, Pennsylvania. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1978, but was delisted in 1986 after being demolished following a fire on June 24, 1985 that was caused by arson. It has since been rebuilt and now serves as a public entertainment venue. Worthington State Forest
Worthington State Forest is a state forest located in Warren County, New Jersey within the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area, just north of the water gap in the Skylands Region of the state. It covers an area of and stretches for more than along the Kittatinny Ridge near Columbia. The park offers hiking, camping (including a hike-in, primitive area) and canoeing and kayaking on the Delaware River. Sunfish Pond
Sunfish Pond is a glacial lake surrounded by a hardwood forest located on the Kittatinny Ridge within Worthington State Forest, adjacent to the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area in Warren County, New Jersey. The Appalachian Trail runs alongside the western and northern edges of the lake. It was created by the Wisconsin Glacier during the last ice age. The lake was declared a National Natural Landmark in January 1970. History The land was purchased by Charles C. Worthington who used the forest as a deer hunting preserve; the lake supplied water to his mansion. In 1965, there was a plan to create a reservoir which would have covered the lake. Casey Kays, a local custodian, led 655 people on a hike to protest the plan. Further hikes and letter campaigns caused the power companies that owned the land to donate it to the state in 1966.
