Charles Cameron (architect)
Charles Cameron (1745 – 19 March 1812) was a Scottish architect who made an illustrious career at the court of Catherine II of Russia. Cameron, a practitioner of early neoclassical architecture, was the chief architect of Tsarskoye Selo and Pavlovsk palaces and the adjacent new town of Sophia from his arrival in Russia in 1779 to Catherine's death in 1796. Cameron concentrated exclusively on country palaces and landscape gardens. Twice dismissed by Paul of Russia during the Battle of the Palaces, Cameron enjoyed a brief revival of his career under Alexander I in 1803–1805. All his indisputable tangible works "can be encompassed in a day's tour". Charles Cameron (colonial Administrator)
Charles Cameron (1766–1820) was Civil Commissioner of Malta and then Governor of the Bahamas. Career Born the son of Donald Cameron and Mary Guy, Cameron became Civil Commissioner of Malta in 1801. He issued a proclamation to the Maltese people in July 1801 making it clear that he would uphold their laws and rights. He went on to be Governor of Bahamas in 1804 and died in office in 1820. He was also a partner of Harley, Cameron & Company, a firm with shipping ventures in the East Indies. Charles John Cameron (22 November 1907 – 12 February 1960) was an Australian rules footballer who played with North Melbourne and Fitzroy in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Cameron, who played as a wingman, joined North Melbourne in just their second VFL season. While at North Melbourne he regularly represented the Victorian interstate side, appearing in a total of 11 games including at the 1930 Adelaide Carnival. Charlie Mark Cameron (born 5 July 1994) is a professional Australian rules footballer playing for the Brisbane Lions in the Australian Football League (AFL). Charles Wesley Cameron (31 October 1927 – 7 January 2001) was a professional magician who specialised in a style known as bizarre magic. He was born in Edinburgh, Scotland, and has a younger brother. Sir Charles Cameron, 1st Baronet, (18 December 1841 – 2 October 1924), was a Scottish doctor, newspaper editor and Liberal politician. Cameron was born in Dublin, the son of John Cameron, newspaper proprietor of Glasgow and Dublin. He was educated at Madras College, St Andrews, and at Trinity College, Dublin. He also studied at medical schools in Paris, Berlin, and Vienna, but never practised medicine. He became editor of the ''North British Daily Mail'' (later incorporated into the '' Daily Record'') in 1864, and was managing proprietor of the paper from 1873. At the 1874 general election, Cameron was elected as one of the three Members of Parliament (MPs) for Glasgow. Sir Charles Alexander Cameron, CB (16 July 1830 – 27 February 1921) was an Irish physician, chemist and writer prominent in the adoption of medical hygiene. For over fifty years he had charge of the Public Health Department of Dublin Corporation. He was elected President of the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI) in 1885. Early life and education Cameron was born 1830 in Dublin, Ireland, the son of Captain Ewen Cameron of Scotland and Belinda Smith of County Cavan. He was descended from Clan Cameron of Lochiel. He received his early education in chemistry and pharmaceutical chemistry in Dublin. Charles Duncan Cameron
Charles Duncan Cameron (1825-1870) was a British soldier who was serving as British consul in Ethiopia when he was imprisoned by Emperor Tewodros II as one of the acts which led to the 1868 Expedition to Abyssinia. Life Cameron was the son of Colonel Allan Cameron, 3rd Buffs, and was born in the Isle of Man in 1825. He entered the army 19 May 1846, by purchasing the commission of an ensign in the 45th Foot, and served with that unit until July 1851. During this time he was attached to the native levies during the Kaffir war of 1846–7. Having settled in Natal on his retirement from the 45th, he was employed by (afterwards Sir) B.C. Pine, then lieutenant-governor of that colony, on diplomatic service in the Zulu country, and acted as Kaffir magistrate in the Klip river district of Natal. Charles Hay Cameron (11 February 1795 – 8 May 1880) was a British jurist. He was married to the photographer Julia Margaret Cameron. Personal life Cameron was the son of Charles Cameron, governor of the Bahama Islands, by Lady Margaret Hay, daughter of James Hay, 15th Earl of Erroll. His grandfather, Donald Cameron, was the younger son of Dr. Archibald Cameron of Locheil, who had been executed in London in 1753. Charles Hay Cameron erected a monument to his great-grandfather in the Savoy Chapel.
