Charles Bush (mayor)
Charles W. Bush (October 17, 1881 – August 4, 1955) was the third mayor of Anchorage, Alaska. Biography Charles William Bush was born in Germany and immigrated with his family to the United States while he was still an infant. He came of age in Portland, Oregon where he worked as a clothing salesman. In 1905, he moved to Valdez, Alaska, where he operated a tobacco store with his sister, Emma. In 1915, he moved to the not-yet-incorporated city of Anchorage. It was about this time that a boy, Edward, was born to Charles and his wife, Dora. While in Anchorage, Bush worked for many years as a manager of the Brown & Hawkins general mercantile store, and in 1923, he was elected to the Anchorage City Council. After Anchorage mayor M. Charles W
The F/V ''Charles W'', also known as Annie J Larsen, is a historic fishing schooner anchored in Petersburg, Alaska. At the time of its retirement in 2000, it was the oldest fishing vessel in the fishing fleet of Southeast Alaska, and the only known wooden fishing vessel in the entire state still in active service. Launched in 1907, she was first used in the halibut fisheries of Puget Sound and the Bering Sea as the ''Annie J Larsen''. In 1925 she was purchased by the Alaska Glacier Seafood Company, refitted for shrimp trawling, and renamed ''Charles W'' in honor of owner Karl Sifferman's father. The company was one of the pioneers of the local shrimp fishery, a business it began to phase out due to increasing competition in the 1970s. Valdez ( ; Alutiiq: ) is a city in the Chugach Census Area in the U.S. state of Alaska. According to the 2020 US Census, the population of the city is 3,985, up from 3,976 in 2010. It is the third most populated city in Alaska's Unorganized Borough. The city was named in 1790 after the Spanish Navy Minister Antonio Valdés y Fernández Bazán. A former Gold Rush town, it is located at the head of Port Valdez on the eastern side of Prince William Sound. This is a list of mayors of Anchorage, Alaska, United States. Anchorage was incorporated as a city on November 23, 1920. The Greater Anchorage Area Borough, which encompassed the city, was created in January 1964. The two were merged in a unified government called the Municipality of Anchorage on September 15, 1975.
