Charles Brown (Australian Politician)
Dr Charles Victor Watson Brown (24 May 1895 – 1 May 1970) was an Australian politician. He was the Independent member for Gregory in the Legislative Assembly of Queensland from 1939 to 1941. Brown was born in Paddington in Sydney and was educated at Fort Street Public School. He became a teacher before enrolling in a medical degree at the University of Sydney. He served for two years with the Royal Australian Army Medical Corps in World War I before completing his degree in 1920. He worked at the Mater Misericordiae Hospital and Royal Alexandra Hospital for Children and practised in Balmain in Sydney before moving to Isisford in Queensland as medical officer at the Isisford District Hospital. He later spent 17 years as a doctor at Longreach, including a stint as government medical officer, in which role he served until his election to parliament. Royal Alexandra Hospital For Children
The Children's Hospital at Westmead (CHW; formerly Royal Alexandra Hospital for Children) is a children's hospital in Western Sydney. The hospital was founded in 1880 as "The Sydney Hospital for Sick Children". Its name was changed to the "Royal Alexandra Hospital for Children" on 4 January 1904 when King Edward VII granted use of the appellation 'Royal' and his consort, Alexandra of Denmark, Queen Alexandra, consented to the use of her name. ''The Morning Bulletin'' is an online newspaper servicing the city of Rockhampton and the surrounding areas of Central Queensland, Australia. From 1861 to 2020, ''The Morning Bulletin'' was published as a print edition, before then becoming an exclusively online newspaper. The final print edition was published on 27 June 2020. History The first issue of ''The Bulletin'' was launched on 9 July 1861. It is the second oldest business in Rockhampton, the oldest being the Criterion Hotel which was established in October 1860. The founder and original owner, William Hitchcock Buzacott (1831–1880, brother of Charles Hardie Buzacott), brought the press and equipment from Sydney in 1861 where he operated a small weekly paper. Trachoma
Trachoma is an infectious disease caused by bacterium '' Chlamydia trachomatis''. The infection causes a roughening of the inner surface of the eyelids. This roughening can lead to pain in the eyes, breakdown of the outer surface or cornea of the eyes, and eventual blindness. Untreated, repeated trachoma infections can result in a form of permanent blindness when the eyelids turn inward. The bacteria that cause the disease can be spread by both direct and indirect contact with an affected person's eyes or nose. Indirect contact includes through clothing or flies that have come into contact with an affected person's eyes or nose. Children spread the disease more often than adults. Poor sanitation, crowded living conditions, and insufficient clean water and toilets also increase spread.
