Charles Blackwell (music Producer)
Charles Blackwell (born Ramsey 20 May 1940 – 14 August 2024) was an English arranger, record producer and songwriter. He began his career in music publishing offices in Denmark Street, London. At the age of 18 he was music director of Joe Meek's record label. He became a prolific studio arranger and record producer in the 1960s and 1970s with a string of hits, and recorded with many famous artistes. He was later commissioned to orchestrate Beethoven's "Ode to Joy" for a recording to be played at every sitting of the European Parliament. Early life and career Charles Blackwell was born in Leytonstone, Essex, on 20 May 1940. His parents separated when he was young and he was sent to live with his grandparents, where he found solace in his grandmother's old upright piano and began picking out tunes. Leytonstone
Leytonstone ( ) is an area in East London, England, within the London Borough of Waltham Forest. It adjoins Wanstead to the north-east, Forest Gate to the south-east, Stratford to the south-west, Leyton to the west, and Walthamstow to the north-west, and is north-east of Charing Cross. Historically, it was part of the ancient parish of Leyton in the Becontree hundred of Essex. The first documented evidence of settlement is from the 14th century, describing a hamlet at 'Leyton-atte-stone'; a reference to the Roman milestone located within the area, that formed a northern boundary of the parish. It remained largely rural until the 19th century, becoming part of the London postal district in 1856, the same year its railway station was opened (now on the Central line). I'll Never Fall In Love Again (Lonnie Donegan Song)
"I'll Never Fall in Love Again" is a song written by Lonnie Donegan and Jimmy Currie, and first released by Donegan as a single in 1962. Composition The verses are melodically based on the traditional folk song "Wanderin", even recycling the "It looks like" phrase. The Italian-styled chorus, however, sounds very different. Tom Jones version The most commercially successful recording of the song was by Tom Jones in 1967. Upon its first release, Jones' recording reached number 2 on the UK Singles Chart but was less successful in the United States where it peaked at number 49 on the Hot 100, and number 28 on the Adult Contemporary chart. Jess Conrad (born Gerald Arthur James; 24 February 1936) is an English stage and screen actor and singer. As a boy he was nicknamed "Jesse" after American outlaw Jesse James; as there was already an actor named "Gerald James" in Actors' Equity Association, Actors' Equity, a drama teacher who was a fan of writer Joseph Conrad suggested the stage name of "Jess Conrad". The Vernons Girls
The Vernons Girls were an English musical ensemble of female vocalists. They were formed at the Vernons football pools companyLarkin C., ''Virgin Encyclopedia of Sixties Music'' (Muze UK Ltd, 1997), , p. 461 in the 1950s in Liverpool, settling down to a sixteen strong choir and recording an album of standards. Career The group was originally known as "The Voices of Vernons", and under that name appeared on Eamonn Andrews' BBC television series in 1957, seen by at least one critic as being a response to rival pools company Littlewoods' already-established vocal group the "Littlewood Songsters". Decca Records is a British record label established in 1929 by Edward Lewis (Decca), Edward Lewis after his acquisition of a gramophone manufacturer, The Decca Gramophone Company. "Secret Love" is a song composed by Sammy Fain (music) and Paul Francis Webster (lyrics) for ''Calamity Jane'', a 1953 musical film in which it was introduced by Doris Day in the title role. Ranked as a number 1 hit for Day on both the ''Billboard'' and ''Cash Box'', the song also afforded Day a number 1 hit in the UK.
