Charles Bidwill
Charles W. "Charley" Bidwill Sr. (September 16, 1895 – April 19, 1947) was an American businessman. He was the owner of the Chicago Cardinals of the National Football League (NFL). He owned the team for 14 seasons, the NFL campaigns running from 1933 through 1946. Bidwill was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1967. Early life Bidwill was the son of Chicago 9th Ward Alderman Joseph Edward Bidwill and Mary Anne Sullivan. His eldest brother Joseph Edward Bidwill Jr. was a clerk of the Chicago Circuit Court and his younger brother Arthur J. Bidwill was a Republican State Senator. Chicago Stadium was an indoor arena in Chicago from 1929 to 1995. When it was built, it was the largest indoor arena in the world with a maximum seating capacity of 26,000. Chicago Rockets
The Chicago Rockets were an American football team that played in the All-America Football Conference (AAFC) from 1946 to 1949. During the 1949 season, the team was known as the Chicago Hornets. Unlike the Cleveland Browns, San Francisco 49ers, and Baltimore Colts, the franchise did not join the National Football League (NFL) prior to the 1950 season. All-America Football Conference
The All-America Football Conference (AAFC) was a major professional American football league that challenged the established National Football League (NFL) from 1946 to 1949. One of the NFL's most formidable challengers, the AAFC attracted many of the nation's best players, and introduced many lasting innovations to the game. However, the AAFC was ultimately unable to sustain itself in competition with the NFL. 1944 NFL Season
The 1944 NFL season was the 25th regular season of the National Football League (NFL). Each of the ten teams in the league played a ten game regular season schedule — a total of 50 contests. This culminated with a Championship Playoff played at the Polo Grounds in New York City on December 17, 1944 — a game won by the Green Bay Packers over the New York Giants, 14–7. In 1944 the Boston Yanks joined the NFL as an expansion team, while the floundering Brooklyn Dodgers rebranded as the Brooklyn Tigers for one final season before merging with the Boston newcomers in 1945. Violet Fults Bidwill Wolfner (; January 10, 1900 – January 29, 1962) was the owner of the Chicago / St. Louis Cardinals of the National Football League (NFL) for over 14 years, from 1947 until her death in early 1962. David Jones (NFL Owner)
David Jamison Jones (October 29, 1883 – July 28, 1966) was an American physician who became the second owner of the National Football League (NFL)'s Chicago Cardinals. He also owned a considerable number of shares in the Chicago Cubs baseball team. Jones was born in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, the son of Welsh immigrant John Jones and the English-born Emma Terill Jones. In 1929, Jones bought the Cardinals from the team's founder, Chris O'Brien for $12,000. O'Brien sold the team after growing weary from a combination of losses, apathetic fans, and the popularity of the northside's Chicago Bears.
