''Charcoal'' ( pt, Carvão) is a 2022 Argentine-Brazilian black comedy-drama film written and directed by Carolina Markowicz. Plot In the São Paulo countryside, a rural peasant family struggle to care for their ailing patriarch; one day, however, an Argentine drug lord arrives with an offer to give them a substantial amount of money conditional on permitting him to kill the old man and take his place as part of his efforts to hide out from criminal prosecution. Carolina Markowicz
Carolina Markowicz is a Brazilian film director and screenwriter, whose debut feature film '' Charcoal (Carvão)'' premiered in 2022. Based in São Paulo, she directed a number of short films in her early career, most notably winning the Queer Palm at the 2018 Cannes Film Festival for ''The Orphan (O Órfão)''. She was subsequently a co-creator of the television series ''Nobody's Looking (Ninguém Tá Olhando)''. ''Charcoal'' premiered in the Platform Prize program at the 2022 Toronto International Film Festival. Maeve Jinkings
Maeve Jinkings Melo Silva (born 4 August 1976) is a Brazilian actress. Early life Jinkings was born in Brasilia, Brazil's capital, the daughter of a merchant and a photojournalist. At the age of five she moved with her mother to Belém, Pará, where she grew up and graduated in Social Communication. When she was 22, she went to São Paulo to study drama at the CPT (Centro de Pesquisa Teatral -Center for Theater Research) headed by director Antunes Filho. She was also approved at EAD – Escola de Arte Dramática (School of Dramatic Arts) of the University of São Paulo. She is of African-Brazilian descent, with some English ancestry from her maternal grandfather.
