Charanjit Singh Channi
Charanjit Singh Channi (born 15 March 1963) is an Indian politician who served as the 16th Chief minister (India), Chief Minister of Punjab, India, Punjab. He is a member of the Indian National Congress. He is serving as a Member of Parliament, Lok Sabha, Member of the Lok Sabha from Jalandhar Lok Sabha constituency since 4 June 2024. He was also Minister of Technical Education and Training in Second Amarinder Singh ministry and List of leaders of the opposition in the Punjab Legislative Assembly, leader of the opposition in the Punjab Legislative Assembly. Early life and education Channi was born in the village of Makrauna Kalan, Punjab. He studied law at Panjab University and has an MBA from PTU Jalandhar. Chamkaur
Chamkaur Sahib is a Sub Divisional town in the Rupnagar district, district of Rupnagar in the Indian State of Punjab, India, Punjab. History It is famous for the First Battle of Chamkaur (1702) and the Second Battle of Chamkaur (1704) fought between the Mughals and Guru Gobind Singh. Situated on the banks of the Sirhind Canal, Chamkaur sahib is at a distance of 15 km from Morinda and 16 km from Rupnagar. Sushil Kumar Rinku (born 5 June 1975) is an Indian politician and a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party. He was a member of parliament from the Jalandhar constituency after winning in 2023 Jalandhar by-election but in 2024 he lost to Congress candidate and former Chief minister of Punjab Charanjit Singh Channi. He previously belonged to the Aam Aadmi Party and Indian National Congress. 2015 Guru Granth Sahib Desecration Controversy
The 2015 Guru Granth Sahib desecration (also known as the ''2015 Sri Guru Granth Sahib sacrilege'') refers to a series of desecration incidents of the ''Sikh Guru'' Guru Granth Sahib and subsequent protests that took place in Punjab, India in October 2015, although it is known as the 2015 Guru Granth Sahib desecration it started from 2014 and continued until 2021. The first incident of desecration was reported from Bargari, Faridkot district, where 110 torn Angs (pages) of the holy Book were found on 12 October. 2021 Indian Punjab Political Crisis
On 18 September 2021, several government members of the Punjab Legislative Assembly from Indian National Congress in India attended a Congress Legislative Party (CLP) meeting, which may or may not lead to the change of CM of the Indian National Congress in Punjab. This led to the resignation of Amarinder Singh from the chief minister post on 18 September 2021 at 4:30 pm.
