Chansey Paech
Chanston James "Chansey" Paech (, ; born 1987) is an Australian politician. He is a Labor Party member of the Northern Territory Legislative Assembly since 2016, representing the electorate of Namatjira until 2020 and Gwoja thereafter. He is of Arrente, Arabana and Gurindji descent. Early life and education Chanston James Paech was born in 1987 in Alice Springs, in the Northern Territory of Australia. His mother is Aboriginal, of the Arrernte and Gurindji peoples, and his father of German descent. He is the great-great-grandson of Central Australian pioneer, Topsy Smith, and the great-great nephew of bushman Walter Smith. Paech is the only openly gay male MP in the NT Legislative Assembly, and before entering politics, he was a prominent LGBT rights activist. Gunner Ministry
The First Gunner Ministry was the first ministry of the 11th Chief Minister of the Northern Territory, Michael Gunner. It came into operation on 31 August 2016, succeeding the Giles Country Liberal ministry, and ended on 7 September 2020, succeeded by the Second Gunner Ministry. Walter Smith (bushman)
Walter Smith also known as Walter Purula (Perrurle) or Wati Yuritja (2 July 1898 – 14 June 1990) was a legendary Australian bushman from the Arltunga region in the Northern Territory of Australia. Wati Yuritja translates as man of the Water Dreaming). He was also a miner, dogger and perhaps the most widely travelled cameleer in Australia who could speak more than 30 languages. Early life Smith was born at the Arltunga goldfield and was the eldest of eleven children to William Smith, a goldminer of Welsh descent and an Aboriginal woman Topsy White ( Topsy Smith). Topsy Smith
Topsy Smith (1875 – 15 April 1960) was an Arabana pioneer of Central Australia in the Northern Territory. She spent her life caring for Indigenous children at an institution known as The Bungalow in Alice Springs. Early life, marriage and children Topsy Smith was born around 1875, the daughter of Mary Kemp, who was of Arabana descent, from the Oodnadatta area, in northeast South Australia. Her father was policeman George White but he did not play a large role in her life as she as mostly raised by her mother and her step-father Arthur Evans. The couple had a variety of jobs together, including running a store at Alice Well, until Arthur 'got respectable' and left Mary to marry a white woman. The Arrernte () people, sometimes referred to as the Aranda, Arunta or Arrarnta, are a group of Aboriginal Australian peoples who live in the Arrernte lands, at ''Mparntwe'' (Alice Springs) and surrounding areas of the Central Australia region of the Northern Territory.
