Channelview High School
Channelview High School is a public high school serving students grades 9–12 in Channelview and other unincorporated communities in Harris County, Texas, United States of America. It is the main flagship school of the two high schools part of the Channelview Independent School District. The UIL region of the district is 6A. In 2022, the school received a "B" rating from the Texas Education Agency and received two distinction designations. Academics The school educates over 2,800 students in grades 9-12 as of 2023. For the academic year 2015–16, 93.6% of students had been awarded their high school diplomas by the end of the year. Incidents On March 13, 2018, a chartered school bus, carrying students from the school band, plunged down a ravine in Alabama, driver had heart attack. All 46 passengers suffered injuries. Channelview, Texas
Channelview is a census-designated place (CDP) in the U.S. state of Texas on the east side of Houston in Harris County. Its population was 45,688 at the 2020 U.S. census. History Channelview was given its name since it is located on the northeastern curve of the Houston Ship Channel. The site of Channelview was home to Lorenzo de Zavala, one of the founding fathers of the Republic of Texas. During World War II, the area south of Market to the Ship Channel, and what is now DeZavala St. to the tollway, was part of the U.S. Army San Jacinto Ordnance Depot. In 1990, an explosion occurred at the ARCO petrochemical plant in Channelview that killed 17 people and injured five others. In 1991, Channelview was the site of a notable murder plot. Olen Underwood
Olen Ulesus Underwood (May 25, 1942 – February 28, 2025) was an American professional football player and judge. He played as a linebacker in the National Football League (NFL) and American Football League (AFL). He played college football for the Texas Longhorns. Underwood played defensive end at the University of Texas at Austin from 1962 to 1964. He helped the Longhorns win the National Championship in 1963 and was a first-team all-Southwest Conference selection in 1964, when the Longhorns upset #1 Alabama in the 1965 Orange Bowl and finished ranked 5th. In 2003 he was named to the Texas Longhorn Hall of Honor. He was selected and signed by the New York Giants in the 14th round of the 1965 NFL draft with the 183rd overall pick. De'Montre Tuggle (born March 29, 1999) is an American professional football running back. He played college football at Kilgore College and Ohio University. He has been a member of the Chicago Bears of the National Football League (NFL), the Arlington Renegades of the XFL, and the Ottawa Redblacks and Hamilton Tiger-Cats of the Canadian Football League (CFL). Johnny Otis Knox II (born November 3, 1986) is an American former professional football player who was a wide receiver for three seasons with the Chicago Bears of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football for Abilene Christian University. He was selected by Bears as the 140th overall pick in the 2009 NFL draft. Knox's career abruptly ended after sustaining a severe spinal injury in 2011. When it became apparent he would never be cleared to play again, he retired in 2013.
