Change (Zulema Song)
Change was a hit for singer Zulema in 1978. It was her first single for the LeJoint record label. Background The track was co-produced by Zulema and Van McCoy. It was distributed by London Records. It appears on her ''Z-Licious'' album, released on Le Joint LEJ17000 in 1978. An advertisement appeared on the front page of the September 23, 1978 issue of ''Billboard'' announcing that her debut album for the LeJoint label, ''Z-Licious'' was in the process of being made. In the Top Single Picks, it was a recommended disco track in the same issue. In Barry Lederer's Disco Mix section of the September 30 issue, it was stated that the record would be put out on a 12" release for disco play. The album was reviewed in the October 7 issue of ''Billboard''. It was given a good review which mentioned that McCoy played keyboards on the album. Zulema Cusseaux (January 3, 1947 – September 30, 2013),Allmusic (((Zulema>Biography)))Accessed May 25, 2010 and attended Howard W. Blake High School. Career Zulema and her school friend Brenda Hilliard joined a local group called The 5 Crystals, before the two formed the trio the Lovelles, together with fellow Tampa native Albert Bailey. When they met producer Van McCoy and were signed by Maxwell Records, the group's name was changed to Faith, Hope and Charity. Their song "So Much Love" hit #15 on the R&B chart and #60 on the pop chart in 1970. Zulema left Faith, Hope and Charity in 1971 shortly after a label switch to Sussex Records. Bailey and Hilliard would occasionally sing backing vocals on Zulema's albums, though. Van Allen Clinton McCoy (January 6, 1940 – July 6, 1979) was an American record producer, arranger, songwriter and singer. He is known for his 1975 internationally successful hit " The Hustle". He has approximately 700 song copyrights to his credit, and produced songs by such recording artists as Brenda & the Tabulations, David Ruffin, The Stylistics, The Presidents, Faith, Hope & Charity, New Censation, Gladys Knight & the Pips, Aretha Franklin, Peaches & Herb, Lesley Gore, and Stacy Lattisaw. "I'm Not Dreaming" is a song performed by the American singer Zulema (and friend) in 1978. She sang in a duet with a supposedly mysterious male singer. Background The song, "I'm Not Dreaming", was written and produced by Van McCoy. Backed with her own composition, "Gotta Find a Way" was released on LeJoint 5N-34002 in 1978. The album of the same name was reviewed by ''Cash Box'' in the November 4, 1978 issue. The two tracks selected by the magazine were ballads, "Praying for a Miracle" and "I'm Not Dreaming". Appearing in the soul section of ''Billboards Top Soul Picks for the week of January 20, 1979, the single received a warm review. The unnamed friend singing in duet with Zulema was actually Van McCoy.
