Chandrakanta (novel)
''Chandrakanta'' is an epic fantasy Hindi novel by Devaki Nandan Khatri. Published in 1888, it was the first modern Hindi novel. It gained a cult following, and contributed to the popularity of the Hindi language. The copyright on the novel expired in 1964 and it is now in the public domain, along with other titles by the author. It inspired Nirja Guleri's mega-budget TV serial of the same name (though the screenplay had many differences from the novel) which became one of the biggest-ever blockbusters in the history of Indian television. Story The story is a romantic fantasy about two lovers who belong to rival kingdoms: the princess Chandrakanta of Vijaygarh, and the prince Virendra Singh of Naugarh. Krur Singh, a member of the Vijaygarh king's court dreams of marrying Chandrakanta and taking over the throne. Sahara One is an Indian Hindi general entertainment channel based in New Delhi. It was operated by Sahara India Pariwar. History Sahara One was launched as Sahara TV on 28 March 2000, which later was renamed as Sahara Manoranjan in April 2003. To compete with other channels and attract more audience, the channel once again changed its name to Sahara One on 10 October 2004 under the leadership of Sandeep Bhargava. The channel launched in the United States in 2005 on EchoStar along with the sister channel Filmy, also launched and headed by Sandeep Bhargava. Sahara one stopped airing new shows 2015 due to declined television rating points and being beaten by new channel like life ok. It is viewed as FTA Channel on Asiasat 7 but repeats old shows.
