Chamman Khan
Chaman (Pashto and ) is the capital city of the Chaman District in Balochistan, Pakistan. It is located near the Afghanistan-Pakistan border. The city is situated south of the Wesh–Chaman border crossing with the neighbouring Kandahar province of Afghanistan. Etymology The name ''Chaman'' is thought to be derived from garden in Urdu. There is little verifiable evidence to a singular and apparently unfounded claim that the name partly derived from that of a Hindu trader in the city before the partition, as the area was known as Chaman much before this period. 2023 Pakistani Census
The 2023 Census of Pakistan was the detailed enumeration of the Pakistani population and the seventh national census in the country. It was conducted by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics. It was also the first ever digital census to be held in Pakistan, including the first in South Asian history. The census was initially held from 1 March 2023 to 1 April 2023. However, enumeration was later extended several times until 30 May 2023, because of incomplete enumeration in large cities such as Karachi, Lahore, and Faisalabad, where people are more mobile and therefore harder to count, and in remote and rural Balochistan. The extension was also used by PBS officials and census takers for quality reviews, to check if all households and people were properly counted in each area. The Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) () is a federal agency under the Government of Pakistan. It is an attached department of the Ministry of Planning, Development & Special Initiatives. It works for collecting statistics in the country. History In 1947, the ''Central Statistical Office'' (CSO) was set up by the government of Prime Minister Liaquat Ali Khan. In 1950, CSO became an attached department of the Economic Affairs Division. In 1972, on the recommendation of IBRD Mission, Prime Minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto upgraded the Central Statistical Office to a full-fledged government division. In 1981, the bureau was reorganized and its technical wing (CSO) was converted into the then ''Federal Bureau of Statistics''. Köppen Climate Classification
The Köppen climate classification divides Earth climates into five main climate groups, with each group being divided based on patterns of seasonal precipitation and temperature. The five main groups are ''A'' (tropical), ''B'' (arid), ''C'' (temperate), ''D'' (continental), and ''E'' (polar). Each group and subgroup is represented by a letter. A semi-arid climate, semi-desert climate, or steppe climate is a dry climate sub-type. 2021 Chaman Bombings
The 2021 Chaman bombings were two bombing attacks in Chaman, Balochistan, Pakistan, that occurred on 24 March and 21 May. These attacks left 10 people dead and another 27 injured. Background The insurgency in Balochistan is a long-running low-intensity insurgency by Baloch nationalists in southwestern Pakistan and southeastern Iran. Chaman was previously bombed in 2017. Bombings 24 March A bomb left 3 people dead and another 13 were injured. The terrorist act involved the detonation of a remote-controlled bomb placed in a motorcycle. The target of the attack was a senior police officer. The explosion occurred as the police car was about to pass the motorcycle. 2017 Chaman Suicide Bombing
Terrorist incidents in Pakistan in 2017 include, in chronological order: January *4 January an explosion took place on Bannu Road in Dera Ismail Khan. The police van was on routine patrolling when it was targeted by remote control bomb that was planted in the center of the road. According to police the bomb weighed between 5 and 7 kilograms. In the attack, 15 people including five police officers and a woman were injured. The injured police officers include constable Atta-ur-Rehman, BaqarMukhtarHussain, Asif and Akram while among other injures was the security guard of Gomal University, Muhammad Ali who was referred to Multan for medical treatment. *21 January - a bomb was detonated at a vegetable market in Parachinar, in the Kurram Valley of the Federally Administered Tribal Areas of Pakistan.
