Chamkila
Amar Singh Chamkila (21 July 1960 8 March 1988) was an Punjabi singer and musician of Punjabi music. Chamkila and his wife Amarjot were killed, along with two members of their band on 8 March 1988 in an assassination which remains unresolved. Amar Singh Chamkila is regarded as one of the best live stage performers that Punjab has ever produced and extremely popular with the village audience. His monthly bookings regularly outnumbered the number of days in the month. Chamkila is generally regarded as one of the greatest and influential Punjabi artists of all time. His music was heavily influenced by the Punjabi village life he was surrounded by growing up. He commonly wrote songs about extra-marital relationships, coming of age, drinking, drug use, and the hot tempers of Punjabi men. Tumbi
The tumbi or toombi ( pa, ਤੂੰਬੀ, pronunciation: ''tūmbī''), also called a tumba or toomba, is a traditional musical instrument from the Punjab region of the northern Indian subcontinent. The high-pitched, single-string plucking instrument is associated with folk music of Punjab and presently very popular in Western Bhangra music. The tumbi was popularized in the modern era by the Punjabi folksinger Lal Chand Yamla Jatt (1914-1991). In the 1960s, 1970s, and 1980s many Punjabi singers adopted the tumbi, notably Kuldeep Manak, Mohammed Sadiq, Didar Sandhu, Amar Singh Chamkila, and Kartar Ramla. Dugri
Dugri is a village in the Indian state of Punjab. Dugri is clustered around the village center Gurudwara Damdama Sahib, which is the holiest Gurdwara of Sikhism in the neighborhood. The Gurudwara was established after Guru Nanak Dev Ji and Guru Hargobind ji visited. It has temples such as Sheetla Mata Mandir situated right near the entrance to the village. Mehsampur ( pa, ਮਹਿਸਮਪੁਰ) is a village in Jalandhar district of Punjab State, India. Muhammad Sadiq is a Punjabi-language singer, actor and politician from Punjab, India. He is best known for his duets with singer Ranjit Kaur. He is the current Member of Parliament, Lok Sabha for Faridkot, Punjab constituency. He was the Congress party MLA from Bhadaur in Punjab from 2012 to 2017. Asa Di Var, (Gurmukhi: ਆਸਾ ਦੀ ਵਾਰ) meaning “A ballad of hope,” is a collection of 24 stanzas (''pauris'') in the Guru Granth Sahib, from ang 462 to ang 475. Some people argue that the founder of Sikhism, Guru Nanak Dev, wrote the first 9 stanzas together on one occasion and later wrote 15 more on a different occasion; however, some Sikh scholars believe that the whole '' vaar'' was written at the same place as the ''vaar'' itself proceeds in a definite uniformity.
