''CexCells'' (pronounced "Sex Sells") is the debut studio album by the American electronic music duo Blaqk Audio. It was initially scheduled to be released on August 7, 2007, however, it was rescheduled and released a week further on August 14, 2007 through Interscope Records. It debuted at number 18 on the '' Billboard'' 200, selling more than 29,000 copies within its first week. It received mixed reviews from music critics. It spawned one single: " Stiff Kittens". Background and recording Before Davey Havok and Jade Puget formed Blaqk Audio, the two began including more synthesized elements into AFI's songs, notably in the albums '' Sing the Sorrow'' and '' Decemberunderground''. In the August 2006 issue of '' Guitar World'', Puget revealed that " Love Like Winter" and "37mm" from '' Decemberunderground'' were initially intended to be a part of the side project. Blaqk Audio is an American electronic music duo, formed by current AFI (band), AFI members Davey Havok and Jade Puget under Interscope Records. Their debut album, ''CexCells'', was released on August 14, 2007, and reached number eighteen on the Billboard 200, ''Billboard'' 200. The band's second album, ''Bright Black Heaven'', was released on September 11, 2012, under Superball Music's imprint Big Death. Stiff Kittens (song)
"Stiff Kittens" is the first track on Blaqk Audio's debut album ''CexCells'', released on August 14, 2007. On June 13, 2007, "Stiff Kittens" was released on the band's MySpace profile. It is the only single from ''CexCells''. The title is a tribute reference to the band Joy Division. Music video The music video was done and directed by Marc Webb. Webb previously worked with Blaqk Audio members Davey Havok and Jade Puget for AFI's "The Days of the Phoenix", " The Leaving Song Pt. II", "Miss Murder", and "Love Like Winter". In an interview Davey Havok said the video was shot in Marc Webb's basement. While on the talk show Loveline on April 30, 2009, Havok mentioned that it just "didn't work out" and will not be released. Bright Black Heaven
''Bright Black Heaven'' is the second studio album by American electronica band Blaqk Audio, consisting of Davey Havok and Jade Puget of AFI, released on September 11, 2012, under Superball Music's imprint Big Death. The album title was first revealed in October 2009 in an interview with Jade on myYearbook, and the album itself had been completed as of December 2, 2011. The first single, "Faith Healer", was released on August 14. Background information The album is a follow-up to 2007's ''CexCells'', and it was ready before AFI's '' Crash Love'' (2009), but Puget said that he and Havok felt that "if all of a sudden we're doing two Blaqk Audio records in a row people will think AFI is not happening or something." Jade Puget
Jade Errol Puget (born November 28, 1973) is an American musician and producer, best known as the guitarist for the rock band AFI (joined in 1998), the guitarist/writer for the straight edge hardcore band XTRMST, and the keyboardist/synthesizer operator for the electronic duo Blaqk Audio. Puget is vegetarian and straight edge. Career Before joining AFI on November 2, 1998, Jade Puget played in various bands, including Loose Change and Redemption 87. His first album with AFI was 1999's '' Black Sails in the Sunset''. The first song he wrote for the band was "Malleus Maleficarum". Puget's addition to the band introduced fans to a more melodically acute and dynamic sound that was vastly different from earlier material. ''Decemberunderground'' is the seventh studio album by American rock band AFI, released on June 6, 2006, through Interscope Records. The album was supported by three singles, " Miss Murder", " Love Like Winter", and " The Missing Frame". Recording Over 120 songs were written for the album, the majority of them never finished or released. Recording took place at Conway Recording Studios and Sage & Sound Recording Studios in Los Angeles, California. Sessions were produced by Jerry Finn with Joe McGrath handling recording.
