Centro Educativo Recreativo Associação Atlética São Mateus, commonly known as São Mateus, is a Brazilian football club based in São Mateus, Espírito Santo state. They competed in the Copa do Brasil and in the Série C once. History The club was founded on December 13, 1963. São Mateus won the Campeonato Capixaba Second Level in 1987 and in 2008 and the Campeonato Capixaba in 2009. The club competed in the Série C in 1995, when they were eliminated in the First Stage of the competition. They competed in the Copa do Brasil in 2010, when they were eliminated in the first round by Remo. The club won the Campeonato Capixaba again in 2011. Clube do Remo, commonly referred to as Remo, is a Brazilian professional club based in Belém, Pará founded on 5 February 1905. It competes in the Campeonato Brasileiro Série B, the second tier of Brazilian football, as well as in the Campeonato Paraense, the top flight of the Pará state football league. 2010 Copa Do Brasil
The 2010 Copa do Brasil was the 22nd edition of the Copa do Brasil, starting on February 10 and ended on August 4. It was contested by 64 clubs, either qualified through their respective state championships (54) or by the Brazilian Football Confederation, CBF Rankings (10). Clubs that qualified for the 2010 Copa Libertadores did not take part because of scheduling conflicts. Format The competition is a single elimination knockout tournament featuring two-legged ties. In the first two rounds, if the away team wins the first match by 2 or more goals, it progresses straight to the next round avoiding the second leg. The away goals rule is also used in the Copa do Brasil. The winner qualifies for the 2011 Copa Libertadores, which prevents a team from winning the Copa do Brasil twice in a row. The Campeonato Brasileiro Série C 1995 was a football (soccer) series played from August 27 to December 10th, 1995. It was the third level of the Brazilian National League. The competition had 108 clubs, the largest number before or since (as of writing in 2014), and two of them were originally promoted to Campeonato Brasileiro Série B, Série B. São Mateus, Espírito Santo
São Mateus is the eighth oldest Municipalities of Brazil, municipality in Brazil and the seventh most populous in the States of Brazil, state of Espírito Santo. Founded on September 21, 1544, it gained municipal autonomy in 1764. Originally named ''Povoado do Cricaré'', it was renamed São Mateus in 1566 by Father Joseph of Anchieta. According to 2019 Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics, IBGE estimates, its population is approximately 130,000 inhabitants. Campeonato Brasileiro Série C
The Campeonato Brasileiro Série C, commonly known as the Série C or the Brazilian Série C to distinguish it from the Italian Serie C, is the third tier of the Brazilian football league system. Unlike the first and second divisions, the Série C is not played in a double round robin system, arguably because many participating teams lack the financial conditions to travel long distances. Thus, the tournament is organized in regional groups and the table prevents teams from distant states from playing each other in the initial rounds. Beginning in 2009, the Série C was reduced from 64 teams to 20 and the new Campeonato Brasileiro Série D is the qualifier for Brazilian league football. In its current format the first phase was then played in a single round, with 19 matches. The Copa do Brasil () is a knockout football competition played by 92 teams, representing all 26 Brazilian states plus the Federal District. It is the Brazilian domestic cup and it is the Brazilian equivalent of the FA Cup, Taça de Portugal, Copa del Rey, Scottish Cup and Copa Argentina, even though it has much more prestige and is considered almost as important as the Brazilian League, as the prize money is higher than the ''Brasileirão'''s.
