The Federal District Metro ( Portuguese: ''Metrô do Distrito Federal'', commonly called ''Metrô DF'') is the rapid transit system of the Federal District, in Brazil. It is operated by ''Companhia do Metropolitano do Distrito Federal'' and was opened in 2001. Currently, Federal District's Metro has 27 stations on two lines, and it runs for . The system passes through 6 Administrative regions of the Federal District, those being Brasília, Guará, Águas Claras, Taguatinga, Ceilândia, and Samambaia. The metro covers the Federal District's main cities. Its main problem is the sheer distance between many stations (caused by overall low density, suburban profile for such system), making it only a small part of the transit system of the Federal District and mostly an intercity service, with exceptions in Brasília and Ceilândia. Monumental Axis
The Monumental Axis () is the central and main avenue in Brasília's city design. The avenue begins on the National Congress of Brazil building and is considered part of the DF-002 road. Its first section is known as "Ministries Esplanade" (), as it is surrounded the buildings of government ministries. Many important government buildings, monuments, and memorials are located on the Monumental Axis. It is 16 kilometers long, beginning at the Rodoferroviária de Brasília, and ending at the Praça dos Três Poderes. It was created by Lúcio Costa during the construction of Brasília's Plano Piloto, connecting with the Highway Axis () at the Pilot Plan Bus Station. A common urban legend persists that the Monumental Axis is the widest road in the world, where " 00 to 160cars can drive side by side". Praça Do Relógio Station
Praça do Relógio (Station code: REL) is a Federal District Metro station operating on the Green line. It was opened on 31 March 2001 as the western terminus of the inaugural section of the line, from Central to Praça do Relógio. In November 2006, the line was extended to Ceilândia Sul as shuttle service, and on 23 April 2007, full service was opened. It is located between Estrada Parque and Centro Metropolitano. Galería Station
Galería (Station code: GAL) is a Federal District Metro station on the Orange and Green lines. It was opened on 31 March 2001 as part of the inaugural section of the line, from Central to Terminal Samambaia and Praça do Relógio. It is located between Central and 102 Sul in Brasília's South Wing (Asa Sul), Brazil. The station got its name because it is located under the Galeria dos Estados, one of the main shopping areas in central Brasília, and also serves as a pedestrian crossing. Location As well as the Galeria dos Estados, there are a number of sectors in the immediate vicinity, such as the SBS (South Banking Sector), the SCS (South Commercial Sector) and the SHS (South Hospital Sector).
