Central Michigan Chippewas Baseball
The Central Michigan Chippewas baseball team is a varsity intercollegiate athletic team of Central Michigan University in Mount Pleasant, Michigan, United States. The team is a member of the Mid-American Conference West division, which is part of the National Collegiate Athletic Association's Division I. Central Michigan's first baseball team was fielded in 1896. The team plays its home games at Theunissen Stadium in Mount Pleasant, Michigan. On June 27, 2023, Jake Sabol was named the Chippewas' head coach. On May 1, 2021, Jordan Patty pitched the first perfect game in CMU history. Mid-American Conference
The Mid-American Conference (MAC) is a National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I collegiate athletic conference with a membership base in the Great Lakes region that stretches from Western New York to Illinois. Nine of the twelve full member schools are in Ohio and Michigan, with single members located in Illinois, Indiana, and New York. For football, the MAC participates in the NCAA's Football Bowl Subdivision. Shawn Robert Hare (born March 26, 1967) is an American former professional baseball outfielder. Hare played four seasons in MLB, appearing in 64 games from 1991 to 1995 with the Detroit Tigers, New York Mets and Texas Rangers. Professional baseball career Hare was signed as an undrafted free agent by the Tigers on August 28, 1988 and played in the minor leagues until making his major league debut on September 26, 1991. After playing in 24 games for the Tigers in 1991 and 1992, Hare was placed on waivers in 1994 and claimed by the Mets. Curtis Allen Young (born April 16, 1960) is a former professional baseball pitcher and pitching coach. He played all or parts of 11 seasons in Major League Baseball, and previously served as pitching coach for the Oakland Athletics and the San Francisco Giants. Playing career Young was drafted by the Athletics in the fourth round of the 1981 draft. He joined the big league club in 1983 and played with the A's through the 1991 season, starting opening night for them in 1987. Thomas Michael Tresh (September 20, 1938 – October 15, 2008) was a professional baseball infielder and outfielder who played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the New York Yankees (–) and Detroit Tigers (). Tresh was a switch-hitter and threw right-handed. He was the son of the MLB catcher Mike Tresh. Biography Born in Detroit, Michigan, Tresh graduated from Allen Park High School. Kevin Ray Tapani (born February 18, 1964) is a former Major League Baseball pitcher who played for the New York Mets, Minnesota Twins, Los Angeles Dodgers, Chicago White Sox, and Chicago Cubs from 1989 to 2001. Early life Tapani was raised in Escanaba in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. His surname is a Finnish name: his great-grandparents had emigrated from Finland to the Upper Peninsula. Daniel Jay Rohn (born January 10, 1956) is a former infielder in Major League Baseball. Rohn was drafted as a second baseman by the Chicago Cubs in the 4th round of the 1977 amateur draft, and made his major league debut on September 2, 1983. He was traded by the Cubs to the Cleveland Indians for Jay Baller on April 1, 1985. Before joining the Seattle Mariners as a coach in 2006, Rohn was the manager of the Pacific Coast League's Tacoma Rainiers from 2001–2005. As the skipper for the Rainiers, he was named the PCL Manager of the Year in 2001 and again in 2004 & 2005. Dick Parfitt
Richard Allen Parfitt (May 13, 1931 – September 6, 2021) was an American college basketball coach. He was head coach for Central Michigan University (CMU) from 1971 to 1985, during which time he led their move from the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) to NCAA Division I. Parfitt was born in Gratiot County, Michigan and attended Central Michigan College, where he played basketball and baseball for the Chippewas. Following his graduation in 1953, he became a teacher and high school basketball coach in Laingsburg, Michigan, starting a prep coaching career that would last until 1962 when he returned to his alma mater as an assistant basketball and baseball coach. Zachary McKinstry (born April 29, 1995) is an American professional baseball utility player for the Detroit Tigers of Major League Baseball (MLB).
