The largest railway station in Sydney, Central railway station, is served by two adjoining light rail stations which provide an interchange with the Sydney Trains suburban and intercity, Sydney Metro rapid transit and NSW TrainLink regional heavy rail networks, as well as with various bus routes. These light rail stations are both connected to the main railway station but are physically separated from each other and possess distinct names. Eddy Avenue is a street in the Sydney central business district of New South Wales, Australia. It runs west from Elizabeth Street to Pitt Street outside Central station. History Eddy Avenue was built in 1905, during the construction of Central Railway Station. It was named after Edward Eddy, who served as Commissioner of Railways from 1887 to 1897. Description Eddy Avenue runs in a north-westerly direction for 200 metres from Elizabeth Street to Pitt Street. To the north Belmore Park runs along its full length, while to the south is Central station. Three lanes of road traffic run in each direction. An island platform (also center platform (American English) or centre platform (British English)) is a station layout arrangement where a single platform is positioned between two tracks within a railway station, tram stop or transitway interchange. Island platforms are sometimes used between the opposite-direction tracks on twin-track route stations as they are cheaper and occupy less area than other arrangements. Metro Transport Sydney (MTS) was the owner of the now-demolished Sydney Monorail and the former owner of the Inner West Light Rail in Sydney, New South Wales. The Stadler Variobahn (formerly sold as the ABB Variotram, Adtranz Variotram and Bombardier Variotram) is a German-designed model of articulated low-floor tram and light rail vehicle. Adtranz was a multi-national rail transportation equipment manufacturer with facilities concentrated in Europe and the US. The company, legally known as ABB Daimler-Benz Transportation, was created in 1996 as a joint venture between ABB and Daimler-Benz to combine their rail equipment manufacturing operations. In 1999, DaimlerChrysler (successor to Daimler-Benz) bought ABB's shares and changed the company's official name to DaimlerChrysler Rail Systems. Rozelle–Darling Harbour Goods Line
The Rozelle–Darling Harbour Goods Line is a railway line in Sydney, Australia, the great majority of which became part of the Inner West Light Rail. It was part of the city's goods railway network; through conversion to light rail, most of the former goods line was subsumed by the Sydney Light Rail network. A section of the line became a pedestrian pathway. A shot spur runs to Regent Street station.
